Can sound be improved - or do I have a fault?

I have noticed that whether listening to radio or music on a usb stick, that there is a level of distortion that can be heard in the background.  I have changed the speakers and it's still there.  Is this "normal" or do I have a fault?  I have also noticed that as volume is increased, then it can often sound as though the speakers are being over-driven.  I plan to factory re-set and re-load the firmware tonight to eliminate all software possibilities but would be grateful for comments and similar experiences.

  Hi pdes,

  Try doing the factory reset first and then test it for audio/sound improvement. Doing a factory reset will not change your firmware (back to previous version), so no need to reload it.

  I would also suggest doing the pinhole reset: Insert a paper clip into the reset pin-hole (located in the back of the main module) and press the reset button for a second with light pressure. Test for sound improvement.

  I have the same problem. The sound distorts and crackles before it reaches maximum volume. I tried doing a factory reset but the problem is still there. Do I have a faulty unit?
