Pairing SMH-10 with HFP or HSP Devices
The SR10 is an HFP/HSP device that pairs with SMH-10 and other SENA headsets. The pairing procedure specified in the SR10 manual is different than for pairing the headset with "smart" devices, such as phones or GPS units in that there is no way to choose from a list of devices or enter a PIN, etc. Basically, you put the SMH-10 into pairing mode, then put the SR10 into pairing mode and let them do their thing (hopefully).
My question is, will this pairing procedure also work with other HFP/HSP-only Bluetooth devices (generally older devices designed to work with pre-A2DP mobile phones)? Or is there some reason why such devices will not pair with the SENA headset?
I don't have an SR10, because it is bulky, expensive and includes more features and inputs than I really need. There are many cheap early Bluetooth "car kit" handsfree devices out there; specifically I am referring to "plug-in" units that mount in a car's cigarette lighter and connect to a mobile phone using HFP/HSP (and not A2DP). The lack of battery operation should prevent such a unit from turning itself off in order to conserve the battery (but will depend on the actual unit's design--this is the problem with most earpiece-type Bluetooth headsets, as well as the Jabra A210 and possibly the Cardo BTA II). Spending UKP10 on an old eBay Bluetooth device and gutting it for motorcycle use (including converting the mic-level input into a line-level radar detector input using appropriate circuitry) should be worth a punt, I think.
My thinking is that a HFP/HSP-only Bluetooth device should be perfectly happy to pair and work with a modern Bluetooth HFP-capable headset like the SMH-10, but I won't know for sure until I try it (or someone with more experience tells me!) I would be grateful for any thoughts on this idea (even from SENA...)

Update: I'm increasingly doubting that the plug-in Bluetooth "car kit" will work in the way I want it to. Still haven't tried it, but I am starting to save my paper route money for an SR10...

@JZH: You can use the Universal Intercom feature on the SMH10 and try pairing it to that plug-in Bluetooth "car kit" and see if that works. The Universal Intercom feature allows the SMH10 to be paired with non-Sena products (as long as they can pair to a smartphone) such as Jabra and Cardo Bluetooth headsets and connect to each other using the HFP signal.
