Gopro audio bacpac. Sena packaging damaged wifi button. Also had many connection problems.
So when this product came out I was pretty excited. Now I think it was the biggest waste of money I've spent in a long time. Where do I start.
First of all, I can't turn the bacpac off during riding. I have to manual flip a switch on the back of the unit. And when the unit is on my music is completely disabled. So I can video blog with my friends while riding, but that gets old after a while. So when I'm ready to get back to listening to music, I have to pull over to the side of the road to manually turn it off. That is so stupid.
Second, the skeleton case that I got with it was pressing so hard against the wifi button on the gopro, that it is now damaged and is randomly turning the wifi on and off on its own on the gopro (even when not in the case). I'll see if gopro will RMA this, but Sena should be responsible for this. I looked at the packaging and I can clearly see that the button is way to long. In fact, when you close the package, the wifi turns on immediately. I haven't even pressed the button from the outside. It just has enough pressure that it does it on its own. And that pressure eventually damaged that button on my camera. So I'll be calling Sena shortly to see what they plan to do about that.
Third, the intercom with my friends was very sketchy when recording on the gopro. And the problems is went a few days like that before I noticed the audio was sometimes not recording. I'm only about 70% certain I understand the problem, but I think what happened was that once I was connected to the audio bacpac, I needed to make sure I was the one to initiate the intercom amongst us all. If either of them did, then their voices don't get recorded on the gopro. So after 3 days of this having problems, I explained to my buddies that I was going to be the initiator for intercom for the rest of the trip. So that worked most of the time, but there were still a few times in our 10 day trip where their voices did not show up on the gopro video. And it sucks cause you don't find this out until later that day when you check your videos in the hotel room. I checked Sena documentation and they don't state that the rider with the audio bacpac needs to be the person to intercom out to other riders. But I believe this is how it works (or at least most of the time).
I'm quite disappointed in this product and it seems to be getting completely ignored by Sena. Its had no firmware updates since its release at the beginning of the year and when I called support about the inability to power down without a mechanical switch, they admitted to me that they new very little about the unit. Very disappointing.
