Pairing the Sena R1 with my smartphone

I'm trying to pair my Sena r1 with my smartphone.
When I open the configuration menu I hear "intercom pairing".
When you press the +Button, there is no change to the blue/red LED area.

  to pair to your phone please use phone pairing and not intercom pairing.
  
  press and hold the center button until you hear "phone pairing"
