Battery for Sena R1 (replaceable?)
Hi,
Thinking of getting Sena bicycle helmet. I was looking at the R1, but in a review someone said the battery is not replaceable. I do not want a smart helmet that when the battery dies I am left with just a bike helmet, if I want just a plain bike helmet could get that a lot cheaper. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Just got us ebikes and love them but need helmets.
Thanks,
Jim S.

Technically, you can replace it, but it will void the warranty. as long as you report battery issues prior to warranty expiring, we can replace it.

Take a look at the Sena Pi. I have a pair of these and they work great. Fits on the strap of most helmets, unobtrusive, rechargeable, Have had these for several years now.

What are the instructions to replace the battery for the R1 EVO. Our warranty has already expired but we need to replace the battery.

Jim/Sue,
I wish you the best of luck trying to get ANYTHING from Sena on how to replace the battery. I've simply asked for the schematic so that I can at least have an idea of what I am against when trying to replace the battery but Sena Support and UPPER Management REFUSE to provide that information. They claim that it is proprietary. However, I can only assume that it's simply a hot mess in there and they simply don't want end users opening the units (even out of warranty). I've purchased 3 of these units and can no longer use them for communication (the intended purpose for me and my family). Yes, they are also helmets but if I just wanted helmets then I would have purchased something else.
Anyway, I go to charge these and the red light comes on and turns blue within about 30 minutes. However, they are supposed to charge for at least 2 hours. I then go to try and ride with them and I get maybe about 5-10 minutes into the ride and it's low power or "goodbye".
Support offered me a discount but a discount on a product that no longer functions within 2 years is a product that needs some review by the maker. I've not been told by them that the new product is expected to work better either.
If you are planning to purchase one of these helmets then I'd simply NOT take Sena's word that you can replace it because they won't even provide a technical diagram of what to expect when you open it. Without that then you're likely to have an even worse situation than a non-functional battery.
