SRL2 Sound

I have the SRL2 in a GT-Air 2 helmet. I replaced a Cardo unit and even though the Sena doesn't sound "quite" as good it's still acceptable. Just a bit less bass than the Cardo/JBL speakers.  I did have to futz with the audio settings for a long time to get the volume to increase properly. I think what I found is the volume on my (apple) phone didn't correlate directly to the Sena unit.  Meaning I had to increase the volume on my phone, then also turn it up using the headset.  Now it's more than loud enough, though like I said with a bit less bass than the Cardo.

FYI, I also turned off the speed compensation setting.  It seemed to artificially decrease music volumes.

I don't use intercom at all unless my daughter pillions.  And Sena is SO focussed on intercom over music.  I sent them a suggestion to either have two modes for the application, two apps, or to allow the device to just work with the OS/BT directly.  I liked that Cardo just allow Siri to work.  Sena seems slick and easy for intercom use cases, but managing music playback is difficult.  Hold this button for seconds until the beep then give Sire instructions... or holding a button for seconds to stop/start playback. Cardo controls were much easier, for music.  But in fairness, I didn't really use either for intercom so perhaps Sena rules that use case.

    Dear Heinz,

Thank you for sharing your feedback regarding the sound quality of your Sena SRL2 in your Shoei Neotec 2. I understand how important good sound quality is, especially when listening to music. Allow me to offer some advice and suggestions to enhance your experience.

    Suggestions to Improve Sound Quality

    1. Adjust Speaker Placement:

      • Although the SRL2 speakers are fixed in place, you can try adding small foam pads or spacers behind the speakers to bring them closer to your ears. These are often included with helmets or can be purchased separately.
    2. Check Speaker Alignment:

      • Ensure the speakers are aligned with your ears. Even small misalignments can significantly affect sound quality.
    3. Use EQ Settings:

      • Utilize the Sena App to adjust the equalizer settings. Experiment with the presets or customize the sound profile to enhance bass or treble according to your preferences.
    4. Volume Boosting:

      • Ensure the volume on your paired device (e.g., smartphone) is set to maximum and use the helmet's volume controls to adjust levels. This ensures the SRL2 receives a strong audio signal.
    5. Speaker Upgrade (If Compatible):

      • Consider checking if there are aftermarket speaker options compatible with the SRL2, offering enhanced sound quality. Be sure to verify compatibility before making any purchases.
    6. Helmet Fit Considerations:

      • If your helmet feels slightly loose around the ears, adding padding to snugly fit the speakers near your ears can help improve audio clarity and volume.

    Follow-Up Questions

To better assist you, could you clarify:

    1. Are you experiencing low volume, poor clarity, or both?
    2. Have you adjusted the EQ settings in the Sena App?
    3. Are you using any other accessories (e.g., earplugs or additional padding) that might affect sound transmission?
    4. Does the sound issue occur with all types of audio (e.g., music, phone calls, intercom) or only specific ones?

Let us know how these suggestions work for you or if you need further assistance. Your feedback is valuable, and we’ll share it with our team to help improve future designs.
