10s and Bell Mag-9 Helmet
I recently added the Harley rebranded version of the Mag-9 helmet to my collection. Built-in support for the 10s or smh10 intrigued me. I see a reference to needing a helmet mount kit, but am unsure of which mount kit is needed. Could someone provide me some insight here. As to the 10s vs smh10, I am not sure of the differences, but most reviews indicate the newer one is better. I am planning to use it for audio only, perhaps intercom between me and my passenger, but I have two helmets already set up for using the cabled harley system that is working very well.

SMH10 is not being manufactured anymore although you can still find them out there. The 10s is it's replacement with updated hardware and bluetooth version. You can get the helmet clamp kit here for the mag-9 helmet here.

Well the question was will that clamp kit also work with the 10s - it's about half the price.

clamp kit will work with the 10 or the 10s

I'm Sorry I was mistaken about the SMH10 being discontinued. They currently have an updated SMH10 which is their basic model. The 10s has some additional features you may or may not want/need. No multitasking though.

From a cost difference the dedicated mag-9 mounting kit is about $30 more than the smh10 kit and the 10s is about $60 more than the smh10. Every review I have seen seems to consider the 10s as the best bang for the buck in the industry. If I ever upgrade my 2016 harley to the wireless interface for the boom, I have seen reference to where the 10s will hook up to it as well. Pretty sure I will go with the 10s and its specified kit.
I know one negative of the 10s is that if you are listening to music and then intercom interrupts, you have to manually switch back to music when conversation is finished. They say the 20 series does that by itself.
Not sure what multi tasking implies for the 10s.

Your evaluation is correct. The phone (music) has a higher priority than intercom so you do have to manually switch back and forth with the 10 and 10s. Multitasking (available on the 20s and 20s evo but not on the 10 or 10s) allows music to play and still have intercom going (music ducks down in volume when intercom conversation is taking place then picks back up when no one is talking on the intercom). It takes some fiddling with the adjustable sensitivity to get it just right but it eliminates the switching issue.

thanks for the information. I suspect I could serve my purposes with the lower cost 10 smh (and still take advantage of the built-in mounting on my new helmet), but will likely go with the 10s.
Appreciate your insight. The sena folks says the dedicated mounting kits for the 10s takes advantage of newer speaker design, etc. I think they have a different mike for it as well.
