SMH5-FM - Won't charge, won't turn on
Howdy,
I purchased about 2 months ago a Sena SMH5-FM dual kit.
I used it with no problems at all for the last two months, including a 5000mi road trip in South America. Been using it daily with my Garmin GPS with no problem at all. At the end of the day, being the battery fully depleted or not, I'd charge it.
On the last day of the trip, the battery died when I was about to get home, and when I got home I forgot to charge it. Left it sitting around for only four days and now it won't charge at all.
No LED lights show up when plugged to the charger, not even red or blue. After some time (and some times it happens, others it just stay totally dark) ocasionally the red charging LED starts to blink (sometimes it doesn't even happen, and on others it blinks only when I plug the USB cable off), and that's it.
Tried to use the reset button in the back, tried connecting with Sena Device Manager, no luck at all (Device Manager won't even recognize the device as it needs to be turned on - as it won't turn on, so ...)
is my unit dead?
Note: I live in Brazil and there's no official vendor in my country.

Okay, so I figured it out.
I actually have a dead battery. I tested it with my wife's module battery (yeah, had to open both units for the test). The module works fine.
So, time to check eBay for some batteries. Will order two just in case.

Some devices of this kind have strange strategy/design decision that charging circuit is controlled by microprocessor which has to be powered to... turn on charging logic. If battery is completely empty it might be unrecoverable state as there is no power left to manage to start charging logic.
i have had similar experience as yours with 10U unit and i managed to force the device to start charging having it open, disconnected battery and play some combinations of connecting first usb without battery and then connecting battery or the opposite. After many attempts LED finally stayed on and battery started to b charged. If you have two batteries maybe try to connect usb when good battery is connected and then exchange batteries without disconnecting USB power?

SMH5 is useless I have had this issue now and I have spoken to Sena support a few times and they tell me to hard reset it! none of this works. Am I to believe I have to buy a new device?

FYI, I have purchased the dual device in July 2020. I have this charging problem with only 1 of them!!!
