Intercom while playing music R1 Evo
Hi, I am completely new here, I can't see if this has been asked before.
I just bought two new helmets and we are trying out the features, my wife and I ride each of us like to play music, but I cannot find out how to switch back to intercom and temporarily each other's music.
For example, I might ride 1/4 mile ahead of my wife, I want to be able to turn on my intercom, but she will not hear as she is playing music. There would be NO point of me having to stop for her, wait for her to catch up and tell her to turn on the intercom. Surely there is another way - to me this would be a MASSIVE design flaw or missing functionality, can you let me know?

I just asked this exact same question!
Here's the answer I got...
"unfortunately, the R1 Evo doesn`t have the feature audio multitasking which allows you to listen to music + talk during intercom at the same time."
I'm hoping it's something they can give us as a firmware upgrade. Renders music capability pretty much worthless

I have to agree with this post. I was going to submit a new "feature request/suggestion" post asking for either music share or audio multitasking when I found this. I just wish I'd looked through these community forums before I'd purchased the R1-EVO. I bought three on 10/14/2020, one for each rider in the family, and I went with the R1-EVO for the mesh 2.0 features for larger group rides. Unfortunately, at this point I don't think I can actually recommend the R1-EVO to the people I go on larger group rides with, though if it had at least Audio Multi-tasking or Audio Overlay I would readily recommend it.
Without at least Audio multi-tasking/Audio overlay if I want to listen to music I have to disconnect from the mesh intercom, and for another rider to talk to me they have to call me (or if they are the lead rider they can stop and wait for me to suggest I switch back to intercom instead of music). I can get this exact functionality (meaning listening to music and only being able to talk via a phone call, plus being able to hear ambient sounds for safety) using an open-ear (bone conduction) bluetooth headset and a generic helmet. And those generic helmets actually give me personally a better fit (the largest R1-EVO is just a little more snug front-to-back than I prefer, but luckily not enough to induce a headache on even a long ride). Considering music can significantly improve endurance at the same pace, it seems one of these features would easily be as big a selling point for a cycling helmet as for the motorcycle helmets. There are mesh 2.0 motorcycle helmets (30X and Momentum EVO) which support Audio Multi-tasking, so it seems at least POSSIBLE that the hardware of the R1-EVO could support that feature with a firmware update. I can totally understand going with audio multitasking instead of music share on the "open" mesh intercom of the Mesh 2.0 (with a large group ride different music tastes are quite possible to cause a conflict), but to not do at LEAST audio multi-tasking seems like a complete missed opportunity.

Andy Ellarby David Wilcox and @...
i still really like the R1 Evo, but can’t wholeheartedly recommend them.
I find it deceiving that their feature lineup page doesn’t have a row with “no” in it for “music & telecom multitasking”.
and no reasonable person would expect this to be missing based on the product description.
“Bluetooth technology allows you to connect to your smartphone, enabling you to make phone calls, listen to your music, hear GPS navigation, and connect to fitness apps. The tech also connects you to other R1 EVO users to converse using multi-way intercom.“

I would be happy with an "INTERCOM PAGE" alert tone sent to close by EVO helmets, letting them know to turn off their music and turn on intercom for a conversation? I bought two R2 EVOs for my wife and I to be able to talk while riding. It defeats the purpose if we get 1/4 mile apart and I have to phone her to tell her to turn off the music so we can talk over the intercom. Once I've phoned her - we can talk on the phone.
I don't need to be able to talk and listen to music at once - but I do need to be able to send or receive an alert tone that takes priority over the music. Just like an incoming phone call alert must take priority over music (and intercom)

Interesting!
My wife and I purchased our helmets less than1 year ago. By some strange, dumb luck, I was able to listen to music and have mesh concurrently. The music would suspend when either my wife would talk to me or if ambient noise occurred. That was at the end of last riding season. This season I cannot get the two to work together.
As I said earlier, it was some strange, dumb luck.
