R1-EVO Feature request (Musc Share/Audio Multitasking/Audio overlay)
This is a re-post of a comment on a "General Discussion" post. It seems like feature Requests and Suggestions is really the right place for it.
I bought three R1-EVOs on 10/14/2020, one for each rider in the family, and I went with the R1-EVO for the mesh 2.0 features for larger group rides. Unfortunately, at this point I don't think I can actually recommend the R1-EVO to the people I go on larger group rides with, though if it had at least Audio Multi-tasking or Audio Overlay I would readily recommend it.
Without at least Audio multi-tasking/Audio overlay if I want to listen to music I have to disconnect from the mesh intercom, and for another rider to talk to me they have to call me (or if they are the lead rider they can stop and wait for me to suggest I switch back to intercom instead of music). I can get this exact functionality (meaning listening to music and only being able to talk via a phone call, plus being able to hear ambient sounds for safety) using an open-ear (bone conduction) bluetooth headset and a generic helmet. And those generic helmets actually give me personally a better fit (the largest R1-EVO is just a little more snug front-to-back than I prefer, but luckily not enough to induce a headache on even a long ride). Considering music can significantly improve endurance at the same pace, it seems one of these features would easily be as big a selling point for a cycling helmet as for the motorcycle helmets. There are mesh 2.0 motorcycle helmets (30X and Momentum EVO) which support Audio Multi-tasking, so it seems at least POSSIBLE that the hardware of the R1-EVO could support that feature with a firmware update. I can totally understand going with audio multitasking instead of music share on the "open" mesh intercom of the Mesh 2.0 (with a large group ride different music tastes are quite possible to cause a conflict), but to not do at LEAST audio multi-tasking seems like a complete missed opportunity.

yes, need this function badly. We have 13 people in our biking group and I'll not recommend anyone to buy until we can have this function

Hi David, we will forward your request to our developers. Thanks for your suggestions.

Have to agree that the lack of the Music Sharing/Audio Multitasking/Audio Overlay feature is a major lack for the R1 Evo helmets I recently bought. I have Sena 20S Evo motorcycle headsets that have the feature and it works flawlessly. My wife and I ride together on both motorcycles and ebikes. We REALLY miss the feature in the R1 Evo helmets! How hard would it be for Sena to include this in a future firmware update? I agree the Sena's failure to make the lack of the feature clear in its marketing of the R1 Evo is deceptive. Based on my motorcycle radio, i had erroneously assumed that the feature would be included. Disappointed! Fix it Sena!!!!

It was decided by our developers to not include the Audio Multitasking and Audio Overlay features in the R1 EVO after testing these features and not meeting our standard of getting the same riding experience while talking over the intercom as you would get with our motorcycle headsets. As for other features being added such as Music Sharing, our developers will consider the possibility of add those through firmware updates in the future.

Music Sharing would at least be a nice "add" for the missing functionality of the overlay. It still would require some sort of signal / communication to switch back to Intercom (maybe the person doing the music share switching out to Intercom would be enough, but then it's still only controlled on one side.) Really was excited but not having the overlay / multitasking has dampened our enthusiasm for the R1 EVO.

We bought 2 R1 Evo Smart Helmets back on July 7, 2023. Since we got the helmets, we were always able to play music and have the mesh intercom on at the same time (audio multitasking). When one of us spoke, the intercom cut off the music and vice versa. After a few updates to the firmware, I noticed several things.
1) the audio multitasking no longer works,
2) many of the features that were shown in the device manager (app to update firmware) was disabled,
3) features in the Sena Cycling app were removedIt seems that Sena has pushed a firmware update to make functions one working no longer works to push people to buy a new helmet.
This has frustrated me and my husband and we will no longer purchase a Sena device again until the stop this deceptive practice.0
