Charging
Sena provides Cigarette Charger and optional DC Power Charger with USB power cable for charging SMH10. Also, any certified USB power charger from other manufacturers can be used to charge the SMH10.
The enclosed car charger can be used with 12V, 1A output without any problem because the charging circuit of the SMH10 accepts 5V~14V+ level. Thus, 5V converter for car charger is not required. However, do not use 24V automobile cigarette charging port to charge SMH10; doing so many damage SMH10.It is also OK to use the power cord from the enclosed AC system. The SMH10 will charge without any problem using PC USB port power, 5VDC @500 mA.

I have an EVO 10000mAH External Backup Battery that I use to recharge my Motorola Atrix phone with no issues. this device provides a standard USB output and i am using the USB to micro USB cable that came with my Sena SMH10 to connect to the battery.
When I activate the charging cycle, the SMH10 illuminates the LED red, as is normal for charging condition. However, within 2-3 minutes, the backup battery and Sena go dark, and charging stops, even though the device is far from being recharged.
I have used this setup to recharge many different USB devices with no issue.
Further, I have a friend who has the exact same backup battery device, and I tried charging my headset on his unit with no success.
Any idea what the problem is?
We cannot comment on use of external battery pack. If SMH10 does not charge from provided adapter or directly from USB power port(not the external battery pack) that is connected to constant power source, please contact our support for warranty.
I have an SMH10. It will only recharge with the USB cable plugged into the PC. When I try to use the included AC adapter, it will not light up or charge. The adaptor is snapped together correctly.
Do I have a bad AC adaptor?
I did not receive an AC adapter with my SMH10-D headsets. Will a cell phone charger with an output of 5.1 V. and 0.7 amps work to charge the headsets?
Otrp: contact our support directly to receive warranty service.
Tlinder - newer SMH10 package will not include AC adapter. You can use any USB power source to charge the SMH10.
After it's 1st use , I put my SMH10 on charge last night ,this morning the red light was still on, is there a problem ??
It's been upgraded to 4.1 firmware.
UPDATE, unplugged for 1 min. then plugged back in ,light turned to blue within 15 min.
I have the same problem with Rod. Plug in into my AC USB power but it doesn't charge for 1 full day... but sometime it charged. I don't have a problem with other device. My USB charger is from Eubiq http://www.eubiq.com/.
Can I use the ac usb charger that came with my iphone 5 with my SMH10D?
You guys can use any USB adapters in the market with international approvals. Definitely, you may use iPhone adapters or something. If it is not working, please contact Sena support for further details.
I just received my dual SNH10 yesterday and tried to charge them. One of them charged and the other already had a med charge but would not charge anymore. I tried the cig charger, USB port, and wall, none of them will work and supposedly its brand new. Does anyone have any suggestions? I sent an email to the support techs but after over 10 hrs, I still have not heard a word. I need help please.
WHY would SENA stop including an adapter to charge the thing??? OMG... enough said
I need a charger that will allow me to plug into any wall socket at any hotel in the United States, Why would Sena give everything in the box "except" a AC wall charger, what are my options?
As per SENA specifications the charging circuit output for SMH 10 accepts 5V to 14V+ level, therefore I`m able to use my ASUS tablet USB wall charger when needed.
Brand new out of the box, and the battery does not charge. I am using a 5v 1a USB charger. Also tried a 5v .5a USB charger. The only way to get the device working is by unplugging the battery from the harness, and using external power. I submitted a request to this Helpdesk and support@sena.com for an immediate RMA.
My habit is to place the unit on charge after a days ride and leave it plugged in, such as I do with with a battery tender on my bikes. Is this okay or should I only put it on the charger when I know I'm going to use it the next day?
I have the SPH10 too. It arrived yesterday. I was so excited. It will not charge. I tried multiple options using the included USB charges. Nothing worked. Then I tried calling them...don't do that! You sit on hold for 10 minutes and then have to leave a message. I even tried 3 different times. So much for being able to use them this weekend! I guess I have to wait for them to get back to me. Customer support not so good so far. Disappointed!
I found that my SMH10 also will not charge from an external battery. I have a 10400 mah battery, a 6000 mah battery and it will not charge from either. It does exactly as Joe Babkowski says his does. This should be a feature to support the portability of the unit.
I see a trend here. My son bought me the SMH10 for Christmas and it's finally warm enough to ride. It appears that my portable battery pack does not know they are hooked up and the battery pack turns its self off. My battery pack charges my Galaxy S4 just fine. It does have to USB ports, maybe I have to charge my phone at the same time so the battery pack knows something is charging. This is a real bummer because I plan on taking these on road trips. I don't have room to take my laptop with and my Fat Bob has no charging ports like a normal touring bike. Is there a work around on this or do I have to tell my son that these don't work properly. I also see that no one from Sena has replied to anyone lately.
My buddy and I split a Pair of the SMH10's Mine has the problem I have been reading that lots of people are having where it won't come on and won't charge. I tried the re-set too and nothing. It has been working great but I did do the latest update a few weeks ago and now it won't work. I called SENA and they had me send them all of my info and now it sounds like they do not want to help me with this known problem. It is out of warranty but I think this is a known defect. I would think on the lines of a recall type problem IMO.
Also wanting to give me a problem since my name was not on the receipt.
Warning advice to anyone who is planning on splitting a Pair of these, one of you won't have any warranty unless somehow you can get the store receipt to have both of your names entered on it.
i have purchased the same a 50000mAh Portable External Power Bank and on either 1.0 output and also 2.1 usb charging options it doesnt charge and read that its supposed to accept these .... but i have done and it worked while charging phone it accepts and recognises and charges but only when phone is also connected bit annoying but luckily have a big power bank
forgot to say smh10
For any of those of you having difficulties with a large external battery backup (mine is 12,000mA), the problem with it shutting off of charging after a few minutes is more than likely the battery and not the Sena unit. I know my chargers (I have a bunch of different ones) all do the same thing when charging any headphones or anything that draws a small charge. After a minute, the battery doesn't think it is needed and shuts off. On larger items (iPhone, iPad, flashlights etc...) this does not happen as they are drawing more amps. An in-line volt meter that plugs into the USB port can confirm if this is happening to you also.
