Android phone can't locate Sena 20s
Hey there fellow bikers.
Me and my wife both have 20s and it's been faultless. Recently decided to add speed dial numbers to 20s so plugged to laptop and got pop up window asking if I'd like to update software of the headset. Clicked yes, update completed, added speed dial numbers, jib done. Same with wifes headset.
Now, when 20s is on and in phone pairing setting wifes phone can't locate it in Bluetooth menu, I can't locate hers as well. All fine with my unit, her phone and my phone can pair in seconds to it. It's just hers.
Tried to downgrade to previous update- update stuck to 98%. Left it overnight and it's the same in the morning.
Please guide me towards the light out of this tunnel! :)

I had similar issues. I had to reset the firmware 2 more times. Now it works. But my voice commands are hit and miss. My opinion is this pair of headsets is not worth over $400. I might have to send more emails to Sena......

Hi Dirk,
Thank you for reply. Heard that Sena customer service is not that great. Are these emails getting any response?
Found out another weird thing. While updating/ downgrading as I mentioned the thing is stuck to 98% but I've unplugged it after few hours regardless and when plugged in again Sena manager shows update was successful i.e.- if you downgrade to say 1.7.1 and it's stuck at the end of downgrading, unplug, plug again and the firmware is then the one you were downgrading to, as it were never frozen at 98%. Intercoms pairing to each other, voice commands working but the phone wont find it anyway.
Real fun.

Are your antennas up? I would have to try a reset or OEM and then do a update again. Sounds like you have nothing to lose. The last time I did the reset, instead of doing them both at the same time, I did them individually on my laptop. I truly want to like these but although my issues are different, it is very frustrating .... no of the less. Good luck.

Hi Dirk how would you do a reset? Is it the little pin hole at the back? I did that and nothing changed. I'll try opening up the antenna when pairing to phone but as I mentioned they pair to each other no problem with antennas closed.

To do a factory reset: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P91tSAsRJoE
Then it will be it was when you bought it. Then do the update as in your manual.

At 98% the firmware is done writing to the 20S. If it stops, this means that the 20S is not able to reboot itself back up. To recover from this you can hit the reset button located at the back of the 20S - it's a pin hole and you can use a paper clip to hit the reset. You can hit this reset button several times. And you want to make sure that you have enough charge on the unit.
Every time you update the firmware, it is good to perform a factory reset on the unit and delete the previous pairing on the phone.

Gentlemen thank you both for your inputs.
I've spent good half of the day fiddling with this unit, tried pairing with antenna out, taken it away from router, outlets etc., downloaded older firmware from Sena website, tried pushing the button on the back when stuck update percentage, re-installed Device Manager handful of times, reset the headset, deleted all pairing- nu luck at all.
Bean you've mentioned to push that button when plugged to computer and stuck in updating- laptop made a sound as you disconnect the device and then as you would connect something back- no changes in percentage of upgrading or any other activity by Device Manager.
It's stuck in those 98% as I type and nothing can be done.
Please tell me what I'm doing wrong.
All the best,
Ged

Ged,
At 98% it is done doing the firmware update. You can unplug it and turn it on. If it turns on perform a factory reset, delete the previous pairing in your phone, and re do the pairing.
To pair back to your phone, hold the small button for around 6 seconds until it says "phone pairing", then go to your phone's bluetooth setting to pair it.

Bean thanks for lighning fast reply,
Unfortunately it's still cannot be detected by my phone.
When unplugged at 98% and then plugged up again it shows the software version that I was trying to write so your words are correct but the fact still stays the same.
Let me know if there are any other workarounds otherwise I'll contact the seller and see whats my warranty options.
I appreciate your help a lot, I mean it.

Make sure you are pressing the correct button on the 20S when trying to pair with your phone. Use the smaller button on the side on the 20S. Do you hear the 20S say "Phone pairing" and does the LED flash red and blue back and forth?
Make sure to also delete all the bluetooth pairing in your phone.
Here's a video on pairing the 20S: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=idrkbwOrs1A
You can also try a different phone to see if another phone will see it.

Yep, tried all above. I am becoming guru of navigating through menus and which button means what.
I don't want to sound pessimistic but I've tried all combinations at least 4 times now including factory resets, earlier firmware installations, pushing back button while it's stuck in updating, all of it.
Just dug out my old Sony Xperia Arc phone and tried finding the Sena unit in it's bluetooth menu while pairing (i.e. Sena flashing red and blue lights rapidly)- cannot be found no matter how long I wait or turn on-off bluetooth, scan for nearby devices etc. The old phone found my working 20s and pairs in seconds.
So it is now tested with 3 different phones and none of them finds my wifes unit.
It's frustrating to say the least, should of never plugged that unit to laptop and tried updating and adding speed dial numbers in a first place.
I'm gutted Gentlemen.
