Bluetooth between Sena and action cams like Insta360
I know the issue is well known and there is not much support from Sena. Nevertheless, I'm trying my luck here in the hope that the developers think about the fact that we live in the year 2023!!!
There are many action cams on the market that are used by motorcycle vlogs. Today I'm going to talk about the use of Insta360. Insta360 cameras allow you to pair your AirPods (or other BT devices) via Bluetooth and simply record the sound.
Unfortunately, the pairing with Sena and Insta360 does not work (yet). With Cardo (yes, surely you know them) this is no longer a problem. Pair the camera with the Cardo via BT and you can record not only yourself, but also others in the Mesh (DMC from Cardo). How cool is that please?
So that works with Sena devices you just have to modify your headset. Means cut the cable, re-solve and then plug into the camera.
Please Sena developers, sit down with Insta360, GoPro, and DJI at a table and clarify the problem. I have a 50S and a 30K and am now forced to switch to Cardo, unfortunately.

roup of 2,7k members https://www.facebook.com/groups/aatbg/ We have alot of sena 50s and cardo communication devices but with those issues we may sell sena and swap to cardo in future
Issues so far:
- no waterproof 50s
- lack of integration with insta360
- cannot split the speakers to the external gropro mic so we vlog with mesh ( cardo has it )

Response from insta360 on two items i'd raised on X3
1. Only supporting one Bluetooth connect: Wireless mic connected via bluetooth disables the remote connection - required for gps data
2. Sena compatibility
Least Insta360 respond!
Hi there,
Thanks for contacting Insta360 Technical Support.
We're sincerely sorry for the inconvenience you've experienced. We understand how important it is for our devices to work seamlessly with various accessories, especially for users like yourself who rely on them for content creation.
At this time, X3 camera does not support simultaneous connections with both Bluetooth headphones and a GPS remote. I deeply regret that this limitation affects your ability to use the camera as you intended. Please be assured that I will pass along your feedback to our Research and Development team for their consideration. They are always looking for ways to improve our products and address the needs of our users.
Regarding the compatibility issues with the SENA 50s and SRL3, we have received similar feedback from other users and have already communicated these concerns to our higher management. In the meantime, I recommend keeping following our official channels for announcements regarding future updates.
Your satisfaction and the quality of your experience with our products are of utmost importance to us. We truly appreciate your patience and understanding as we strive to resolve these issues.
Best regards,

"At this time, X3 camera does not support simultaneous connections with both Bluetooth headphones and a GPS remote. "
Darn it! That's a hardware limitation and, for those of us using the BT remote on a motorcycle, kind of the end of the story for using the Sena to improve the audio. Oh well, it was/is a good idea, maybe the X4 will have 2 radios to support this use case.Agreed, at least they answered; I can stop hoping/waiting that a fix will be coming. :(

@johncoyle01 Does that mean that the 50S should work if not using the GPS remote?
0 -
@Michael Provenzale no the 50s still wont connect to the X3 from what I have seen - just tried the firmware v2.4 on sena 50s. the dual bluetooth connection query on the x3 was I had the dji mic 2 connected and wanted to keep with remote also connected.

Another solution would be a microphone adapter for insta360 x3 that will work with Sena. There are tons of brands that make wireless microphones for insta360 products. Why not make one for the intercoms? I would buy it!!!

@Bugraham Duran That is the point of this post my friend. We don't want extra adapters and cables and anything else in our hemets. We paid for expensive devices like insta360 and Sena intercom for that reason. They supposed to do that job.

Hello everyone,
I am another (still) Sena owner who registered here specifically because of this problem.
I have the Insta360 One RS and the Sena SF4. When I activate pairing mode on the Sena and then select the Sena on the Insta360, the Sena says "Connected" but the connection animation on the Insta360 keeps loading. It doesn't work with a Sena 30K either.
As one user has already written here, I also suspect that the last step of the connection handshake is missing on the Sena. This is really a problem for Sena, because more and more people are switching to Cardo, both in my circle of friends and well-known YouTubers, who now advise against Sena precisely because of this problem. These well-known YouTubers have tens of thousands and hundreds of thousands of clicks.
Perhaps Sena thinks that this does not affect so many people and therefore does not fix this bug. But I can say with certainty that it affects a lot of people and sooner or later Sena will be history, because the negative purchase advice remains on the Internet and there are more and more of them.
This thread is now over half a year old and still the problem has not been fixed. There has also been no response from Sena support for a long time.
It works with the competitor Cardo. I will be switching to Cardo soon, because apparently they are not looking for a solution.
Sena, do you have an update?

Yeah, I can see that movement too. More and more german Moto Vloggers are now using Cardo devices for that very reason.

David Worm - which cardo models ?
So where are we on this ?
I have a shoei Neotec II helmet which will accept the SLR 2 headset.
I want to be able to record audio onto my insta360 X3.
Is this possible or not ?
I dont want to drop 300 plus euros on something that does not work.
thanks

Robin Bonathan I have the Shoei GT Air 3 and the Sena SRL 3 headset and I cannot get it to connect to the insta 360 x3 - using the airpods bluetooth option on the x3. Tried all the options in https://firmware.sena.com/senabluetoothmanager/UsersGuide_SRL3_1.0.0_en_230512.pdf to no avail.

johncoyle01That is disappointing.
I think I will look at the cardo models.
thanks

No tried the x4 as was holding off to confirm if it supports simultaneous connection of two Bluetooth devices - remote and headset.
On the Sena support I did notice the following on their x4 page
Bluetooth Devices as supported devices:Motorcycle Bluetooth Headsets:
SENA: 50S, ST1, 10S
Cardo: PACKTALK EDGE
Airide: G7+
ASMAX: F1
Lexinmoto: G4
Vimoto: V9S, V9XOther Bluetooth Headsets:
AirPods Pro (2nd generation), AirPods (3rd and 2nd generation)
Samsung Galaxy Buds2Under “view more specs”

@johncoylep1
I confirmed what you found on their official page, and if that's the case then insta360 needs to update the X3 software in order for it to work with the Sena (imo)

As I mentioned in a comment earlier already, I can at least confirm that it is working with the Insta360 Ace Pro.
So I just expect that it's working with the X4 as well.
Why there is no firmware update for the X3 (and X2) for the same support ... I'don't know.1 -
Probably trying to get people to upgrade to X4.
That's not happening here as only got X3 at Christmas.

With regards the dual Bluetooth connect insta came back with the following confirmation.
Hi there,
After confirming with our engineering team, the X4 camera supports connecting to the Bluetooth headphones and the GPS remote at the same time.Feels like a hardware limitation on the x3, rather than firmware but speculation on my part here.

Curious why the X3 works with a instamic but not the sena?
0 -
Any updates on this? I suspect it is more on insta360 since the X4 reportedly works with the 50 series but the X3 does not...unless the updated insta360 firmware remedied that. Has anyone tried recently?

By my limited testing with SENA 50S and insta360 X4 it connects but only the single unit and not the intercom. It connects as a "phone". I do love this and very happy it connects! I am just wondering if there is a way to record the mesh intercom.
I just watched this video: (https://youtu.be/sMdOltf_L1U?si=eeyVgIx--V_n9Gcz) where through the meshport red it is possible to record the mesh intercom to a GoPro 12. Is it possible to connect the meshport to the insta360 X4?
0 -
Roberto Cresto Yes, MeshPort Red ist working for the Insta360 X4 and Ace Pro. I tested it with the Ace Pro: https://youtu.be/i5MGRPh0adE
And a colleague of me with a X4.Cardo allows to pair the HERO12, Ace Pro and X4 not only as a phone but also as an intercom. This way you can directly record the DMC intercom.

For Sena this is not working.0 -
The Sena Stryker does not appear in X3 as connectable option. Both (X3 and Stryker) just keep searching...
Is there any USB-C extension for X3 which can connect with the Stryker mic via Bluetooth or Mesh?
Best would be, to charge the X3 at the same time, while the extension is connected to X3.0 -
I got my Sena 50S today (firmware v2.5), installed it my NEXX helmet and connected my insta360 X4 (firmware v.1.1.5) to it (via bluetooth).
Worked instantly. Meaning sena microphone is used for recording also the X4 voice commands work.0 -
Based on the info from @Sven & Sena, it seems like the firmware in the X3 is the problem, not Sena 🤔

This may be old and beat-down by now, but I'm a newbie paramotor pilot. Probably the same issues as motorcyclists... wanting a POV camera but one that shows the driver as well. So before buying the Insta360, am I understanding correctly, per a Tech Agent response in March, that "Currently, only the Ace and Ace Pro camera support Sena headsets," meaning those cameras WILL pair with my Sena 10R? So basically the company wants me to buy two cameras instead of one?
