I will test this on my SMH5 with my SGS3 tonight or later this week. So far I've only used it to listen to music and it works decent enough for that. My phone is rooted and running AOKP though. Is yours running the stock ROM? Either way, I'll try to post here to let you know how my testing goes.

Same problem here on an SGS 4. It looks like what's happening is S-voice is enabling but not accepting commands while the phone is locked. There's a method out there to replace S-voice with google, but I haven't tried it yet.

For me, I can receive calls & control music. However if I cannot initiate a call from the SMH-5, if I initiate a call from the phone it's as though the Sena does not connect (I can't here the other party & they can't hear me).

I've sent a ticket into Sena on this, hopefully they'll respond.

NO RESPONSE AND NO SOLUTION by Sena and other

    A REALLY BAD SERVICE

Read another forum Verizon Wirless??  https://community.verizonwireless.com/thread/779469
    BUT THAT "CABBAGE" RESPONSE?

If Sena has a problem on a product ... Sena must respond directly .. Maybe next time Sena asks to look for answers on the site of Cardo System or Midland?

I used Sena SMH5 fm without voice commands!!

The goal of SENA which is it? be a main brand or a generic competitor type Chinese?

    REALLY DISAPPOINTED

Well... perhaps it's the tone of your notes?

I raised a ticket, had a response in 24 hours and we're progressing it now. It's still not working for me, but I can't fault the customer service..

    Hello,

What voice command app are you using on your phone (the default)?

Are you able to do voice command while the phone screen is unlock?

Has anyone reported this issue to Samsung?

Are there other phone models with the same issue?

From what we can tell the Galaxy S3 with S-voice does not allow voice command while the phone's screen is locked for security reason.

release the voice command is the default "Hello Galaxy" and it works with Galaxy S4

does not work with Sena connected.

I described the problem to Sena, contact me and they assured me the resolution in a week, BUT FROM THAT PHONE CALL I never had an answer.

the problem is still present after several months!

to Me is a bad assistance, and Mr. Sena Technician, at least for education had to call and tell you that they were not able to solve any problem.
This is one way at least educated to behave well in front of the inability to solve the problem.

I have to do Sena and write a clear and defined, step by step, with instructions to execute voice commands to operate with devices Samsung Galaxy S3 and S4 or for all devices Android 4.2
Difficult to understand this? all other words and discussions, you do not need!

Only need a list of step by step instructions .... if Sena is able to integrate its product with these devices, otherwise admits the impossibility of using their products with Android 4

Being that I started this mess, I thought I'd give you an update on mine. As long as I don't lock the screen with a password, I am able to initiate a call, text, applications, nav, etc from the Sena. I find it is most reliable when I start S-Voice (select it, then close it.. which leaves it running) before bluetooth connection. Once connected via bluetooth, I only here the Samsung S-Voice 'jingle' but I know it's on and ready for a command. As I think I mentioned before, your S3 bluetooth settings have to be set for both "Call Audio" and "Media Audio". Although it's not  working as well as with the Motorola (mymotospeak) but it does work.

I have found out that the root of the problem is in the S3. My Infinity bluetooth ear piece won't initiate a call or text. My Dodge and Mercedes will initiate a call, but won't do anything with text (read or write). Neither of the car companies give a rats-azz. It's something Samsung needs to change.

On mine (S4), parrot car kit works absolutely fine and does what I need.

Agreed, Sena works when screen is unlocked, but looked no dice.

I also confirm with the Parrot Neo works fine, also connected to two phones simultaneously.

With Sena does not work, and the assistance does not admit the problem and does not find a solution,

A really bad picture of Sena,

    Sena KO, Parrot OK

Mr. Sena ... Parrot ask how I was able to communicate and function of the voice commands Galaxy S4 ....

So, update: This is samsungs problem, not sena.

Parrot kits work when you use their own method, not the phones.

Sena works fine if you remove samsung from the equation... To confirm this, I just flashed my SGS4 into the google edition and the Sena works fine.... So lets move the moaning over to Samsung?

Update to an old thread.. for those that use "search"...

Android's release 4.3 takes care of the problem. (settings, about phone). The Sena now reacts to text messages correctly... albeit slooooow.

I'm soooo much happier now. I use my 'wing as a daily driver so this is HUGE news to me.

This issue remains in Andorid 4.4.  I use a Samsung galaxy S4..  There is  a fix with no slowness, but it will cost you three bucks.   The phone app is called "delayed lock";  found in the play store and it basically disables your pin screen lock whenever you are connected to your bluetooth  and/or Wifi devices.   It will not work on the pattern lock unless you have a rooted device.  It's pretty easy to configure as well.  As soon as the bluetooth connection  is dropped, you can configure the app to immediately re-activate your screen lock for security purposes.   Works like a charm... Pubilc Discalimer:  I have no attachment or obligation to the developers of this App. If you need any help configuring, there are a couple of videos on Youtube to help you out.

I have been fighting this problem for over a year. IT IS NOT A SENA PROBLEM!!! It is an Android (and Apple) problem. that MAY be partially solved with Google Now. Google Now has recently added some off-line voice commands and MIGHT do offline voice dial. Otherwise, ALL "smart"phones must go back to mother Google or Apple to do their voice recognition. It does not happen on the phone. To get around this for the past year, I've been using a Samsung Rugby 2 "flip" phone. This has true offline (since it can't go online) adaptive (you don't have to teach it all of the entries) voice dial. Once paired with my SMH5, all I have to do is press the red button and the phone responds asking for a command. The commands are limited to info about the phone and calling, but they WORK!! The closest app that I found to work on a "smart" phone was utter!, which was a bit sporadic, required Tasker to turn the WIFI OFF when Bluetooth connected, and was broken whenever Google updated. Recently, it appears that Google Now may be able to handle this, but I haven't been able to test because my SMH5 was ground off my helmet in a wreck. I now have a replacement, waiting to be installed when SENA sends me the hook part of the Velcro hook and loop. I will report on the success/failure here. I'm not real hopeful. "Smart" phones are really pretty dumb, and rely a lot on connecting back to the servers for Google and Apple for real processing. I haven't tried a Windows phone for this. BUT!!! the SENA headset worked flawlessly from its end. It is just a Bluetooth communications device and should not be expected to wake a phone from lock or dial a number for you.
