Music Sharing does not work
While connected to another unit, I tried Music Sharing and it does not work. The music can only be heard from the unit initiating music sharing but even so, the sound is extremely choppy - music is heard in less than 1/4 sec sections and silence for about 1 sec before music is heard again for less than 1/4 sec and this repeats.
-
One of the big reasons for buying this unit was music sharing but unfortunately I have found that this feature is completely useless as the music will be reproduced in both helmets with tons of artifacts. I have once been able to have it reproduced in the master unit properly, but the slave unit had even worse artifacts then.

yup.. got this to! music sharing is horrible... it simply does not work..

Music sharing worked just fine between my two SMH 10's, but does not work at all between my new 20s and my older SMH10. Also nothing but problems with audio multitasking and running an intercom conversation - don't understand why you would want to be listening to music while on intercom. I say get rid of that feature and fix the music sharing. If I want to listen to music I disconnect the intercom. Listening to both at the same time is distracting and I feel is unsafe, especially if you are using it between riders. It's easy to miss or make an important comment if the levels are not adjusted just right. I've never been able to get it right so I just leave the whole multitasking off. It's like VOX - works well in a controlled environment but loud ambient sounds mess it up.

Actually, Ken, music multitasking was quite useful on our trip during periods where the 20S worked as expected. (four of us, 10 days). Sometimes we could go an hour or more without anyone uttering a peep. I had XM radio playing on mine. Others had MP3, etc. In times of silence, the entertainment (XM, MP3, etc) would increase audio level. If someone had something to say, the entertainment would decrease to a low level while a conversation ensued; and then increase back again during the next period of intercom silence. I never adjusted it, the factory setting was good; but I think you can set the non-intercom audio level to way down low to equal amplitude as the intercom. Mine was set so that I could hear, but the intercom was louder.

Thanks Ken. Glad to see it works for you. Were all of you using the 20s? My problem seems to be when the 20s is tied to an SMH10. I have found that the noise canceling of the 20s is outstanding. The SMH10 is good but occasional wind noise activates the intercom. Perhaps that is what is happening, causing the music to go up and down frequently. As for the music sharing, can't seem to get it to work with an SMH10. Between two SMH10s it works great but with a 20s and SMH10 it is no joy.

Yes, Ken. All four of us has 20Ss. The lack of noise was absolutely fantastic. In fact, we couldn't tell if we were all intercom connected or not without doing a roll call. The 20S would drop one or more of us from the chained group so often that we did lots of roll calls to see who was there and who was not. Couldn't tell from any microphone noise, that's for sure.

Yea Ken, that's what I thought. I am impressed with the noise suppression for sure but I am disappointed that there isn't better compatibility with the SMH10. Perhaps future firmware updates will address my issues.

I also use the music while on intercom feature. We like to simply be able to speak to each other whenever we want without having to connect to that intercom.
Unfortunately this also does not work properly on my units. Almost every 10 minutes the music - which is only in my headset - will start being produced with artifacts.
I'm surprised people are so tolerant here. If this was any other product, people would be up in arms over the promised but non-functional features. None of the reviews mention anything about the lack of or problems with half the promised features.0 -
Music sharing is working for me but I get skipping like a portable CD player when you go over bumps.

Just got my SMH10's. Updated to latest firmware, but if music sharing works, its beyond me on how to enable it. The tap/hold job dial does give me two beeps, but no music comes out the other SMH10. Does Sena really care? Apparently not (read their FAQ on if the battery is replaceable). I'll use these until another manufacturer invents an intercom that works.

I did get the sharing to work. The issue could be terminology and getting familiar with the modes, but like the manual says, first you need to tap the jog dial 1x to enter intercom mode, then start music on your smartphone and then click/hold jog dial down until you hear two fast beeps. I still get odd playback sometimes, like it's on fast forward, then it slows to regular speed. I'll just keep playing with it, but at least some of my issues were user induced. That doesn't mean Sena gets a pass on the question about battery replacement though.

For those that are having trouble using the Music Sharing feature on the 20S, please check this video:

Also, as noted on the video having the antenna up will help with the connection when using the Music Sharing feature.

What about Music Sharing between a 20S and a SMH10B?

I've never been able to get music sharing to work, either. Support does not return our phone calls.

My music sharing experience thus far:
- 20S --> 20S: works fine
- SMH10 --> SMH10: works fine
- 20S --> SMH10: cannot get it to work at all
All are on the latest firmware (20S 1.2, SMH10 5.1) and seem to function normally otherwise. I love my 20S, but have kept my old (beloved) SMH10 as a guest helmet unit and would love this functionality to work.
Is this expected behavior?

My music sharing experience is similar to Jeff Moore's. I can not get it to work between 20S and SMH10.

I used music sharing in NZ last Nov on an R1200gs lc that had Garmin Nav 5. Plugged in my 32gb micro card with music, paired my SMH10R to the Nav 5, then with intercom linked to my wife linked the music from mine to her's. Worked perfect for the whole month. I don't know if I'm missing something but once you have the music linked you can disconnect intercom as normal use.

Phillip -- does your wife have a 20S? Were you sharing from your SMH10R to a 20S unit?
As mentioned above: I've been able to successfully share from an SMH10 to another SMH10 many times. Sharing from a 20S to another 20S also works as expected. Sharing from a 20S to an SMH10 (or vice versa), however, seems to be totally broken.

Neither have the 20S, sorry if that was misleading.

I got a response from Sena help desk awhile back. Sorry I erased it, but basically at this time music share between a 20S and SMH10 unit will not work.

The music share feature really sucks on mine. It looks liked the 20S is using the walkie talkie VOX function to transmit the music to the second or others in the intercom group thus the main guy sharing the music got to turn on the music super loud on his unit then the "VOX" feature can detect it and transmit out to the others in the group. If this is really sena way of music sharing then I rather NOT use this feature because soon I will become deaf. 0 -
Music share not working between two 20s units, second unit very choppy, any resolutions for this? 0 -
My wife and I just rode 300 miles. She was on the back and we both have the 20s. I updated both devices before we left. When I tested the music sharing in our house the night before the ride, there was no issue. Per the directions that I read, once our devices are paired, hit the jog dial to start intercom, then hold down the jog dial for 2 seconds to start the music (it will only play on your device at this time), finally hold down the jog dial for until you hear 3 beeps and the command "music sharing on". At this point you are still connected to the intercom conversation so you will have static in the music. Hit the jog dial once and shut off intercom and the music sharing will stay on........... God that is a process just to share music!
So in the living room it seemed to work fine. The next day as we were getting on the bike, it did not work. I had to do all the steps a few times and turn on and off our devices and finally it worked. About 30 min into our ride she could no longer hear music, but intercom was fine. While riding was going through all the steps once again and it worked after multiple tires then about an hour later she could no longer hear music. Towards the end of the day I could no longer get it to work.
1. Sena, please fix this, it was upsetting enough that we all found out you could not music share with the SMH10 which I am still upset about since you were totally okay with not telling any of us about until we all purchased the product.. So now here I am having purchased another 20s just to share music only for it to not work.
2. There has got to be a shorter way to start music sharing. Maybe hot the jog dial once to start intercom, then hold for 3 seconds to enable music sharing and the music starts to play so I do not have to hold the dial once again just to start the music that I obviously want to play if I am enabling music sharing.
3. I do like the ability to have the intercom on while listening to music, but that is too much for the device and causing some of these issues, remove that ability.
4. I love how innovative Sena is and why I have been loyal to this company, but please, do not sacrifice cornerstone features that we all love, for new features that are just nice to have. For example, audio multitasking is a great feature (when it works) but the inability to share music with another Sena device is upsetting.
To prevent myself from ranting on more, I know that devices will have bugs and there will be issues, but this device has been on the open market for what a year now? Not to mention all the time you spent testing the device yourself. We are on firmware version 1.3 yet there are so many posts here with known issues that have failed to not only be corrected in a firmware update, but not even acknowledged by a staff member on the forum and provided us with what you are doing to fix this.

Just got a 2nd sena bluetooth, now a SMH5FM to pair with the 20S. Very frustrating to find out music sharing does not work.

I have the same problem with Music share, not working properly between two 20s units, music on receiver (slave) unit is very choppy, sender (master) unit is mostly fine but rarely choppy. the same problem when i reverse the units roles so either both units are defective or that's a firmware / design issue. i have the latest firmware on both units: v1.4.1. music is played via a very powerful, high end 4 core smart phone (xperia z1) running android 4.4

Music Sharing between a 20S and non-20S such as the SMH10 is now possible with the v1.5 firmware update. Please update the firmware on the 20S to be able to use this feature.
If you encounter the music being choppy while using the Music Sharing feature then make sure that both antennas are up on the 20S to ensure a stable Bluetooth connection.

Sena, I love you guys, but haha I think you may need to hire some more customer support folks.
It's been over a year in this thread with no updates from you at all -- nor any acknowledgement that the 20S/SMH10 issue existed in the first place. It is spectacular that you've released an update to fix the issue, and the 20S is still a great product, but next time you might consider better communication with your customers.

Music sharing finally works between 20s and SMH10 with the 1.5 update. Now, if they can get the SMH10 to work with Group intercom I will be a happy camper

Firmwares updated on my 20S and on my SMH-5 FM, and Music Sharing still does not work if using the 20S as master. Strangely, it appears to work fine if using the SMH5FM as the master.
Another problem: If I am listening music on the 20S and start an intercom with the SMH5FM, the music gets completely choppy, impossible to hear.
It´s really a shame that after more than a year I cannot use a feature that was one of the primary reasons to buy Sena intercomms for me and my wife.

I'm having the same issues as Bruno Costa with a 20S + SMH-5FM setup.
Music sharing works if the SMH-5FM (v1.2 firmware) is the source of music, but yeah, doesn't work the other way around. It's a step in the right direction though - thanks Sena team!
My biggest gripe is the 20S problem of very choppy music with Audio Multitasking when intercom channel 1 is open/active (paired to SMH-5FM). The 20S will then suddenly lose phone connection 20S within a minute (20S beeps, and then music player is paused on phone) , and/or the intercom will close itself (both 20S v1.4.1 and v1.5 firmware).
