Does anyone's "Hello" feature work when answering a call?
I adore this headset, I've been using it everyday without fail however there is one major issues I've been having...
In the user guide, it states when receiving a call you can either press the phone button to answer it, or simply say "hello". The only thing is when I do choose the hands-free option by saying "hello", it doesn't retrieve the call unfortunately.
Anyone else having this issue?

I have not managed getting "Hello" to work. Still have use button for answering phone. 0 -
Works perfectly on mine...

Mine will only answer the call via the phone button, never by speaking.

I am only able to answer the phone as well when I hit the phone button. Trying to get it to answer a call by saying hello or any other work loudly enough, probably has people in the area thinking I am going nuts screaming into my helmet. Not a big deal to me, but it would be nice to have all these features work when the device was bought.

I have been able to pick up calls with the hello message but it required nearly screaming hello at the microphone.

I have found that most of the voice commands don't work even when sitting in my lounge or other quiet environment. On some occassions I have found impersonating John Wayne in a deep voice works better....but the Sena 20s still doesn't know how to interpret "howdy partner" 0 -
I didn't think the "hello" function worked, but it does. You do have to shout it pretty loud. It would be good if that were adjustable.
Or better yet, the Plantronics Voyager bluetooth headset (not suitable for motorbiikes) has a better method:
when an incoming call arrives, the headset asks you:"Incoming call - answer or ignore"
You either tell it "answer" or "ignore". Works like a charm
Hey Sena... there's an idea for your next firmware upgrade.

Hello doesn't work for me I must touch my phone button to answer

@ Stering: It probably does. You need to really scream hello for it to answer. I wish they'd fix this in the next firmware.
I've given up on screaming hello… it works, but you look and sound pretty stupid to others around you.
As a safety thing in certain situations, i'd rather not be fumbling with pressing the button by taking my hands off the handlebar.
SENA - S-E-N-A !!! (shouting!) please fix this. This is an otherwise perfect product.

Mine works normally... except when listening to FM. Next time I get a call when on the radio I'll yell at it and see if that makes it answer.

Does not work with my 20S 1.3 firmware and 5S iPhone. At least for my attempts so far.

I have just purchased and all functions work on voice command but can't answer phone with voice command have to use button.will persist and report back if it changes 0 -
Make sure "VOX phone" is enabled in the configuration menu. It does not work when in an intercom conversation - you have to tap the phone button to connect

The "Hello" command to answer the phone doesn't work on my 20S units when running version 1.3. It works fine when I go back to version 1.2 if I YELL "Hello" or any other LOUD word. I've gone back and forth between version 1.3 and 1.2. Doesn't work with 1.3, works with 1.2. Both of my 20S units in my dual pack behave this way.

I updated the firmware on both of my 20S units to version 1.4 (released 4/19/15) and the LOUD "Hello" command or any other very loud word/sound answers the phone. So, it looks like the issue I was having is fixed in 1.4.

I updated to 1.4 Vox phone answer still won't work .have done factory reset as per direction from Sena support and still unable to answer with hello 0 -
You really have to yell "Hello" or any other LOUD word or sound. I'm serious. YELL. By the time I got done trying it, my ears were literally ringing from yelling in my helmet. You will feel silly. While it works, it's easier to just tap the phone button to answer. Easier on the ears, vocal cords and ego too.......
Stating the ovbious, make sure that VOX phone is enabled.....
Just for the record, what serial number is your 20S? The "Hello" command worked on my serial number 14XXXX units running firmware version 1.2. It didn't work at all with version 1.3. It started working again with my serial number 15XXXX replacement units running 1.4. So, my new units or version 1.4 or both got it working. But, both of my earlier units behaved the same way.

Try yelling at in using a John Wayne accent sometimes this works for me. But seriously so many features don't work and haven't been able to be fixed despite 4 firmware upgrades that the units should be withdrawn from the market. Sena have changed the warranty terms on their web site from those in the manual and at the point of sale to reduce their financial liability. They have refused to service mine under warranty at their cost even though it is inside the warranty period and the unit won't turn on intermittently and turns straight back off if I do get it to turn on.

My unit is 15xxxxxxx 2 mths approx old and had 1.3 on it .just updated to 1.4 .it also doesn't respond when in standby to hello Sena all times ,if you tap it to speak and it fires up its happy to respond after that by voice but if you don't talk for a while you again have to tap it to instruct 0 -
The "Hello Sena" command (not to be confused with the "Hello" phone answering command) works fine in firmware version 1.2. On the 4 units I've had, it stopped working in versions 1.3 and 1.4. If you let the unit sit in stand-by mode for more than 60 seconds (this is very consistent), it will no longer respond and you have to tap the body or push the ambient mode button to wake it up. This is easy to test (I may have some of the voice prompts wrong):
1. Push the ambient mode button. The unit will respond with "Say a command"
2. Say "Cancel". The unit will respond with "Cancel"
3. Wait 55 seconds and then say "Hello Sena". It should respond with "Hello, say a command" if you said it clearly
4. Say "Cancel". It will respond with "Cancel"
5. Wait 75 seconds and say "Hello Sena". My units will stop responding at this point and I have to double tap the unit or use the ambient mode button to wake it up
I believe the mic is being turned off after 60 seconds to conserve the battery. If you search the forum for 20S battery life, you'll see why

I'm working on a few issues with Sena support. The "Hello Sena" command is one of the issues. I just got this response from them regarding that issue:
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I checked the Voice command issue and found the reason of problem.
I forwarded this issue to our product management team.
We will fix it next firmware++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
So, it looks like it will get fixed. However, given that the mic will always be on (not just for 60 seconds), it may reduce battery life.

Sena asked me to change main unit to another clamp, did this with a friends unit which is a 14xxxxx and presto works fine ,appears there may be a mic issue .have reported to Sena today Saturday in Tasmania so wait for a reply next week . 0 -
Hello,
Just so I understand, you moved your 15XXXXX unit over to your friends clamp and VOX phone on your unit started working fine? Seems strange that other voice commands work, but the mic itself suddenly has an issue when a phone call comes in. But, I guess stranger things have happened. And VOX phone never worked on your unit before or was it intermittent?

Hi Keith , Correct on all fronts ,never has worked on 1.3 or 1.4 ,I agree with you that other Vox prompts Work and not the phone.on saying that the guy that I changed it over to had 1 speaker go out on a smh 10 but not both . I don't know which version friend is running but he said that he hasn't updated it since purchasing 6 mths ago.his battery life is short and mic is open all times . I passed on the info to him that you and others have discussed re the battery / mic concerns which was great. Sena were very helpful with his problem replaced the effected part no issues . 0 -
Sena replied and wanted me to pack unit and send back to USA for replacement ,could be mths without it .went back to dealer and they have sent of to Aus distributor for them to check out .they indicated that they know of the problem with phone answer. Await their reply. 0 -
Good luck with the distributor. If they fix it, my guess is the only time you'll use the "Hello" phone answering feature is to make sure it's fixed. After that, I think you'll abandon it because it's easier to use the phone button or jog dial to answer the phone. You really have to scream to get it to work. At least I do with my two units.

Yep Sena wanted me to do the same thing (Pay the both way international freight to return it to them for repair under warranty (despite this being in contravention of the warranty terms on page 66 of the manual) AND pay for the return freight). Needless to say I decided not too throw good money after bad money and will never buy another Sena product again.

The Sena SMH5, doesn't work with the call response by the VOX function, and tried to shout the word "hello" in Spanish and English and not worked, even if it is whistled to see if the decibels are high enough to answer the call and I have not been successful, as I see has problems in many more references, I think that buying a device of these to be dropping the handle for answering a call, it is not worth it, an accident may occur.
PLEASE SENA, THIS SHOULD NOT HAPPEN IN YOUR DEVICES.
WE HOPE ANSWER AND NEW FIRMWARE0
