Please enable the Eight-Way Intercom setting on each of the 20S's through the Configuration Menu or on the Sena Smartphone App to see if that will improve the audio quality with the headsets.

The eight-way intercom setting is and was already enabled. This doesn't resolve the problem. Also when the eight-way setting is disabled the sound occurs. It seems like something is interfering with the signal of the 20S.

We have the same problem with newly purchased 20s units. Our units both have the 1.5 firmware that came pre-installed on them. Can this be fixed?

The only solution is to sell your sena and buy a Cardo Packtalk! My friends and I, did it becouse sena or sena dealers dont help You at all! Now we all drive again with a lot of fun and good comminication! Good luck with it.....

We all have this issue.  Hopefully, some day they will fix it.  It's easy to reproduce.  Only takes two 20Ss in intercom; although it's more prevalent with 3 or 4 (the most I've ever had in intercom).  When the popcorn pops and drums beat, it's unbearable.  All Sena users in intercom connection get it simultaneously.  When it stops, it also stops for all.

Often, the only way to get peace and quiet from the popcorn and drums is to just turn the Sena OFF for a while.  When you turn it back on, the sounds may or may not be there.

@Ken: did you updated your Sena 20s- firmware to 1.6 already? I checked the description and hope it is fixed now, because we had the same issue as well. We will know after the next trip with the group:

    • Dual A2DP
    • Storing a pairing list with up to 3 devices for remote controls
    • Minor bug fixes in Siri control, Music Sharing and intercom connection

Good morning Ceo.  The drumming/popcorn popping sounds are so intermittent that I don't know if they're cured or not.  It seems to take 2, 3, 4, or more people in Intercom communication before the sounds are generated and my friends and I haven't been together to give it a chance yet.

And as a sidenote, the features and fixes of v1.6 haven't  all done what they were billed to do.  The dual A2DP doesn't work properly and as documented.  I cannot get A2DP connection when the Zumo is connected as Phone 2; but I do get A2DP when its connected as a GPS.   Sena support is now giving reasons  why it doesn't work as described in my requests for support.   ("The problem is the Zumo", "you have to have an A2DP device connected as Phone1 for Phone 2 to work.", etc.   My Zumo makes an A2DP connection just fine at Phone 1, but not Phone 2.    Same with one of my friends with a Zumo 665.

My family just got done with a 4 day ride.  We were very excited to use our new 20s headsets.  Unfortunately we spent more time trying to get the very loud and annoying popping/static noise to stop then we did enjoying the beautiful scenery we were riding by.  Please help us fix this.

thos morning I rode in to work without my SENA 20s and I thoroughly enjoyed the silence. This communicator may be great for pairing people up but all else is a price of garbage. If you read through my posts you will see a constant lack of support for flawed flywheel design. You will also see constant noise issues or volume issues. I feel as if SENA literally robbed me of 400 dollars. What a price of shit.

Well it is now April of 2017 and my friends and I have upgraded to firmware  1.7.2 and guess what.  I rode with my friend and his wife last weekend and the damn drumming is still there.  This discussion string goes all the way back to Sep 2015 and we still have the damn drumming and crackling on the intercom.  They are so enjoyable when the noise goes away (for no reason I can see) and so damn annoying when it is there.  I am seriously considering the Cardo comm route but the Sena's cost so much I hate to just throw them away and pay the same for new.  Please Sena, give us a fix.

I am having exactly the same problems. As I am riding along there is a steel drum type sound going on in the headset. The range is absolutely pathetic. I can look in my rearview mirror and clearly see my friend right behind me and the thing starts crackling and carrying on and losing signal. Even this afternoon when my daughter and I went riding she had to run back in the house and grab her sunglasses which was only about 60 ft from me with no motorcycle running or anything else going on and it was crackling and carrying on. During our ride today we were riding 2 up and with her directly behind me the crackling and steel drum conditions still continue to happen. I am so incredibly frustrated with this headset I'm ready to tear it off the helmet and Chuck it on the side of the road. It's so frustrating that every person that calls the company gets the same reaction. They tell you that this is the first time they've heard of this and it's so weird. They tell you to reset it, update it, smack it up flip it and rub it down. None of this helps. Also these headsets have a bad history with batteries and the customers are all told that these headsets are only good for approximately two years with no replacement battery available. To me that is a huge fail! At bare minimum they oughta offer a service that allows you to send them in and have the batteries replaced but they should also have an option of having the customer be able to replace it easily as well. This is a support issue that has not been addressed. The company could be making money selling replacement batteries but I guess in the other hand they could be making more money by selling you a new headset. It doesn't seem to matter of the three units that I have they all seem to have the same issue. Different headsets, different mounts, different helmets! None of this fixes any of the problems. I'm also having a lot of issues with volume mixes. You get one connection that gives you one volume level and another connection that gives you another volume level and then you press it button that gives you the Sena prompt and they all come up at different volume levels. Is almost impossible to handle! You wind up going deaf from one of the several different prompts. For this kind of money this thing should be nearly flawless!

I've experienced noise similar to what is described above. But, only when I was paired with my friends SMH5. I don't recall ever hearing it when paired with my wifes 20S. I never thought of it as a static, drum or popcorn sound. I always described it as "RV cabinets rattling", which I guess could be described the other ways. It seems to go away or at least decrease if my friend covers the bottom of his helmet to prevent wind noise from getting to the mic. That prompted us to think that maybe it was his noise canceling acting up. But, now I'm wondering if it's actually my unit. Has anyone had or heard of this problem with the other non-20S models?
