Scott - The red led next to the USB port will turn blue when the unit is fully charged.  The led strip on the outside of the 20S has nothing to do with charging - it only indicates if the unit is on and the status of connections to it.

Periodically when I plug the mini usb cable into the 20S headset to charge/change settings, it will not light up. I remove and re-insert it and it works fine.....just a connection issue.

I updated the firmware on mine last weekend. I have a dual set. I did both. I went for a ride on sunday and mine was working fine. Last night went to charge up ready for a ride today and both the headsets are completely dead?? Has to be the firmware upgrade?? either way, I have two headsets that are useless at the moment. (only bought them end of last year I think) Sena, please help?

Any SENA Techs have a response for this,

Just pull my helmet off the shelf to a dead battery Plugged it in and nothing happens. I bought the dual set and the second one will plug in and Charge just fine. Get the Red Light like you are suppose to.

What gives. How is this already dead in less than a year.

Is there a fix, I have tried every charger in my house and even different cables nothing works

Hi, after scouring the net, there is a potential quick fix I found that worked for me.

Get the original cable that came with the unit and plug it in an adaptor to charge directly from an AC outlet. (not a computer USB). Charge it via a USB AC adaptor.

I found this worked for me, but the trick was getting the original cable.

Also, try the reset button on the back of the unit with a paperclip.

    Best of luck!!

WJones you are awesome! I had tried the original cable on computer USB ports but never on standalone chargers. That brought my 20S back to life and am now flashing down from 1.7.2 to 1.6.3 to see if the issue goes away.

Mrobonline, I ended up submitting an RMA and had the unit replaced. The issue did not go away. I assume the batteries on these units are faulty and do not hold a charge after some time. My unit was 1yr old before it started having issues. Now i bought a second unit and swap them around between helmets in case i run through this issue again. Make sure that if you do something similar, buy a protection plan to skip the RMA process and have a new replacement at the store.

    Good luck!

Thanks Juan.  That seems to be the case.  Tried the reset procedure and no dice.  Still not working.  I can´t even get the charge light to illuminate.  Just submitted warranty claim this morning.

I have always had the problem on the RED charge light staying on when charging my 20S.

Sometimes it will turn BLUE but not all that often.  It makes no difference which USB cable I use or weather or not I connect it to a power outlet or the USB connection on my computer.  It's just another in the long line of faults that plague the SENA range.

My 20s is out of warranty, never in any rain. Put it on the shelf end of last season and this season it would not charge. Finally put the charger in the unit and held down the reset for approx 20 sec. and it started to charge. Left it charge for about 2 hours and it went blue. All good. Hope that helps someone.

I bought a 2 pack over a year ago. After a few months one unit would not charge. The light will not come on to indicate a charge. In the last year I have replaced the battery 2 times and to get it to work I have to flash the battery with a nine volt battery , then make sure I charge it about once a week. For the price of the units I can not recommend these units, and am very disappointed in the units.

Had a nice ride. Came home and tried to update the firmware.

I plugged it into my PC and poof; It stopped working. No lights, no charging, no resetting, no power.  DEAD.

As I do, grabbed tools. A small Allen key. Took it apart, and took notice of the battery type and connector. Amazon'd it. An $18 part.

24 hours later, the replacement battery arrived. I plugged it in, and screwed it back together. Plugged it in.... Voila. Fixed.

I was almost gonna spend another $300 for a new device... Nope.

Thanks for sharing that link Joe, did not know that they sold replacement batteries, sounds like a very quick fix. I've since moved to Cardo Pactalk Black but I still have 3 20's lying around that if they run through this issue I'm glad to see it's a quick fix.
