Can't connect to device manager
I have bought the HJC RPHA91 and the Smart HJC (Sena) 50B and as soon as I turned it on it's saying it needs a firmware update. I have downloaded the device manager on my PC but when I connect the unit it doesn't recognize it! Any ideas how to do an update when the manager doesn't work!?

Thank you for reaching out regarding your Smart HJC 50B and the firmware update issue.
The Sena Device Manager is not compatible with the Smart HJC 50B. To update the firmware for your unit, you’ll need to use the HJC Device Manager, which is specifically designed for HJC-branded communication devices like the 50B.
Here are the steps to proceed:
-
Download the HJC Device Manager:
- Visit the official HJC website: HJC Device Manager.
- Navigate to the "Smart HJC" section and download the correct software for your operating system (Windows or macOS).
-
Install and Update Firmware:
- Once installed, launch the HJC Device Manager.
- Connect your Smart HJC 50B to your computer using the provided USB cable.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to perform the firmware update.
If you encounter any issues during this process, I’d like to ask a few follow-up questions to better understand your setup:
-
Computer Information:
- What operating system are you using (e.g., Windows 10, macOS Ventura)?
- Have you ensured all drivers for USB devices are up-to-date?
-
USB Connection:
- Are you using the original USB cable provided with the Smart HJC 50B?
- Have you tried connecting to a different USB port on your computer?
-
Software Behavior:
- Does the HJC Device Manager recognize the device at all, or does it not detect it upon connection?
- Are you seeing any error messages?
Let me know how these steps work for you or if you need further assistance. I’m here to help resolve this for you.

If the Device Manager isn’t recognizing your HJC Smart 50B, try the following steps: ensure you’re using the correct USB cable (preferably the one provided with the unit), as some cables only support charging, not data transfer. Next, confirm the drivers for the device manager are installed correctly, and restart your PC if necessary. If the issue persists, try using a different USB port or another computer to rule out hardware issues. Alternatively, you can update the firmware via the Sena Utility App on your smartphone, which is often more seamless for updates.
