Clarification Needed on Sena Impulse Helmet Mesh Network Capabilities
Dear Sena Team,
I am seeking immediate clarification regarding the Sena Impulse helmets and their advertised mesh network capabilities. Our group was under the impression that these helmets could connect more than six riders on the mesh network, as this was a key feature influencing our decision to purchase them for managing group rides.
Now we are being told that only six users can connect to the mesh network, which, if true, would mean the product was falsely advertised at the time of purchase. This is deeply concerning, as it significantly impacts the functionality we relied upon when selecting your product.
Can you confirm if the upgraded software version 2.3 resolves this limitation? If not, I would like a clear explanation for this discrepancy between what was advertised and the current reality. This issue needs to be addressed promptly, as it affects the integrity of our purchases, the information on your website/advertising and our trust in Sena's commitments.
Thank you for your urgent attention to this matter.
Sincerely,
Darron

If the software update 2.3 doesn’t lift the six-rider limit, you might try splitting it into smaller mesh groups or using Bluetooth intercom as a backup to stay connected. It’s kind of like Extreme Car —you expect unlimited free roam, but sometimes you hit an invisible barrier and have to find a workaround until the developers fix it. Hopefully, Sena will provide a clear update soon!

This helmet is not sufficient for our needs at this time. Our club consists around 400 members, and we regularly conduct group rides for our general membership. It’s common for our rides to include a ride leader, a tail rider, and six or more ride officers who perform blocking duties at intersections to ensure the group remains together—an action fully permitted under Minnesota law.
As part of the leadership team responsible for running this club, we have chosen the Impulse helmet as the standard for our Core Members, who dedicate themselves to protecting and serving our riders during these events.
This situation is entirely unacceptable. I personally invested prior in different mesh communication system and ran a Sena MeshPort Blue to bridge to Sena units for reliable communication which worked flawlessly with my wife before the decision was made to convert to SENA communication helmets—a costly investment that was not taken lightly. Manufacturers must be held accountable and to a higher standard for their shortcomings and false advertising. If we don’t demand it, who will? It’s time for SENA to either deliver on their promises of unlimited mesh members on our Impulse Helmets or replace our helmets with updated models that fulfill the commitment of unlimited mesh connections as advertised for the Impulse helmet at the time of purchase.

They will not approve my post that follows up with this issue of unlimited mesh connections, it's a good read if they let it go to this spindle of correspondence. But why would they want to expose the issue to more buyers of the impulse?

They will not release my post that addresses why splitting into small groups will not work.

Hi darronmorris,
you know, that the limitation to 6 user is for open mesh ? If you create a private mesh group, up to 24 users can connect to it.

Raphael, this is not how the SENA helmet was advertised. Their literature clearly stated that it could support unlimited mesh connections, and this falls far short of that promise. Our group has been plagued with constant issues with the Impulse Helmet if you're following the spindle of info posted prior addressing wind noise and other issues with the firmware. They changed their direction after Sena was made aware of the issue and changed their support folks to tell people only six could be a on an open mesh.

Well ... I use the 50R unit which is the same hardware as in Impulse helmets. The Sena Quantum line has always had a limitation for 9 users in open mesh and 24 for (private) group mesh. The firmware upgrades released recently changed the limitation to 6 users for open mesh. I don't know exactly why ... I think the reason is to better use the frequencies for increasing audio quality or range.
