I have the same issue. I've tried resetting everything. The adapter can pick up my neighbors router, my wife's iPhone hotspot, but it refuses to pick up my router.

    Same here. Everything, but mine.

It cannot see anything but 802.11g network? If you go to your wifi access point device and open a guest network on the 2.4Ghz range it should be able to see it. It cannot see 5Ghz networks.

My router broadcasts both 2.4 and 5 simultaneously and the WiFi adapter picks up neither

    @Roger Price Is it 802.11g?

I had to do a factory reset and then it saw the network.

Same problem - but I got a step or two farther when I found out you can't have any special characters in your network name.    So I created a guest network with only letters.    But the Wifi Adapter still isn't working.   I have a case in progress - 361166 - in case you want to reference the help desk if you contact them.

Update for original post.... I changed my router's SSID name to remove special characters. Then, 50S was able to find router, but still wouldn't connect. At the Sena supports suggestion, I changed the password, tried all broadcast settings but was never able to connect to my router. (It's a Buffalo AirStation with more security than a typical home router) My riding buddy, who had successfully updated firmware on his 50S via wifi adapter brought his to my house. He couldn't connect to my router. Ultimately, we used his phone as a wifi hotspot and updated firmware in seconds. I still don't have the original intended wifi adapter functionality, but after 4-5 hours of fiddling, I'm done. :)

Thanks to all for the suggestions/support.

Adding my experience to this since Sena tech support has be giving me the cold shoulder since last week.  The tip about special characters worked for me, but it's not just the SSID, your password can't have them either.  Additionally, doing this through a guest network I had to allow access to other devices on the network in my router settings, this was off by default for the guest network.  Not doing this prevented the setup process from completing since my phone could not communicate with the adapter once they were both on the guest network together in the last step of the setup process.

Ryan - that last bit did the trick - my Guest network had a setting for "Allow Guests to see each other...." - I had already removed spaces and special characters and got a step closer - but I needed to throw that switch as well.   Now the phone and the Wifi adapter can see each other and do the updates.

However, having said that - is all this effort really worth it?   I mean - if I just plug the Sena unit into my computer and run the computer app - isn't that sufficient?  I have 2 units - and therefore 2 cables.   Can I count on them "just working" the next time I plug them in?   We'll see.  To quote Shakespeare - it may turn out to be "Much Ado About Nothing"....:-)

Thanks again for the extra piece.

I think now that it's done, it'll be worth it. I store my helmets on the opposite side of the house from my office so it's convenient to have a charging station there that will also handle updates. I also don't think the phone needs to stay connected after the setup process. My understanding is that provided the blue led is lit, the process is automated each time i charge.

We'll see - Same here - My helmets are in the garage, so I'll take everything out there to see if it works "as advertised".   But, of course, you have to trust the lights.   Since the app doesn't connect anymore.   I have 2 blue lights - only.  So, how do I know it actually updated?   Without the app?   Oh, wait, I can bring the unit into the house and plug it into my computer and see what the Device Manager says.....:-).    I wonder if their engineers will figure this out.  I've certainly suggested they fix the basic limitation of no special characters - so I stay on a single network.

Device manager is so much easier to deal with than that dongle. I gave up on that dongle long ago. I got it to work 3 times and then it intermittently stopped connecting to the wifi network after i plug it in to power.

I'm having the same problem.  Wi-fi adapter documentation is horrible.  Using a Pixel 3 phone to try and configure to work on my Google Nest Wi-Fi network.  The phone is not happy about disconnecting from a working (strong signal) Wi-Fi network and connecting to a network that has not got internet access.  It momentarily does, the app says it is connected then asks for my network.  I put that info, and the software locks up.

Over the years, I have gotten the distinct impression that Sena does not Beta test their software / hardware!

Sure they, do, or rather we're doing it right now :-)

Pretty sure that when the tech gets back to me on this problem, he's going to give me my own solution.

Looks like they pushed a new firmware sometime today and the adapter handled it just fine.  Middle led flashed blue while updating and when done it was blue/blue/red all solid for a bit, then finally blue/blue/blue, I think that switch from red->blue on the 3rd led was to indicate a full charge and the timing was a coincidence.

Yea just downloaded v1.0.3. Seems they like to push their firmware without updating their release notes same day. Still shows v1.0.2. From what I've seen in the past, it takes days sometimes weeks before you can see what the changes are. Most tech/software/hardware companies don't do that, they provide release notes and firmware same day.

    https://www.sena.com/product/50s/firmware-history

I'm on the fence with Sena after these recent firmware/software updates and delayed communication of release notes, but also like so many others are finding we're experiencing issues as we're beta testing for them instead of a near solid product when it's released.

robert v I agree with you 100%. My biggest problem is the battery life because the battery life decreases even if I don't use the unit. I have used 3 other Sena models, none of them ever did that. For comparison, my other units don't drop a single percent per day, while this drops 5-7% every day. I used to be able to use any of my intercoms to commute back and forth (~1h per day) for a week and never think about recharging the device until the weekend. I cannot do it with this new 50s model.

I installed the 1.0.3 firmware on my units and now it shows me battery life 110%!!! after 30min of use after a full charge. Maybe the engineers at Sena are listening, hope they fix this problem and all the others, because I already ran into an issue where a fully charged unit (powered off) got completely discharged.

    FIX

I had the same problem as most. I have a network and for everything in the world it works good. this Wifi USB adapter just would not see the network at all.

Fix was I added a guest Network and used a simple name (as) and added a simple passwword 123456789 no security. once done I added WPA security and we ar as good as gold now.

I'm running into the same problem with my new 50S. I haven't tried some of the suggestions here but, to be brutally frank, having to do things like "not have special characters or spaces" in passwords or SSIDs is, in 2020, complete and utter c**p. Proving, once again, Sena's stuff may look really cool but they really ought to fire every single person working in their hardware/software division and subcontract with a company that actually knows what they're doing.

Having this kind of really bad out of the box experience with a company's flagship product is a terrible mark on their reputation.

Well glory be! Turns out updating the firmware to 1.0.3 -- which I could only do via the desktop computer app -- allowed me to connect the 50S via its WiFi dongle to my home network. So now I supposedly have auto-update of the firmware.

Of course this being Sena I'll believe it when I see it.

While testing around I've found out that any wifi network name which contains a minus sign will not be shown and is not selectable. Perhaps this is the problem from some of you.

Weird is that SENA WA-xxx also contains a minus sign itself :-)

But a wifi called "Fritz!Box xxx" in my neighborhood is shown and choosable.

Exclamation sign is allowed - minus sign is not allowed - that's funny

@SENA please update wifi firmware and/or software to make the minus sign usable also hidden networks would be fine - just need to add two text fields where name and password could be written into.

So I just found this thread as I was having trouble as well and sure enough I am using special characters for my password. Question is, I change my SID and password completely and now I can’t get it to connect at all. Is there a way to wipe out the Wi-Fi adapter and start over from scratch? I tried pushing the button then until it turns blue and all the LEDs but I still can’t get it to work.

Can it be upgraded from a computer instead?

Yes of course. With senaBluetoothDeviceManager you can still update the device. Just the proposed automatic update with the wifi adapter won't work

Thanks for responding. It initially did not work but realized I had to update the device manager. The update worked and that’s how I will do it.

WTF SENA!? What is this hunk of shit setup you did here?? Can't update it via computer or fucking this new piece of shit wifi set up here.....

What are we suppose to do now? Spend 800$ for just garbage!

This stupid wifi adapter you've created doesn't even stay connected to any phone long enough to follow through with anything. FIX THIS NOW!!

    Try this.

for now make your 2.4GHz wifi password simple without symbols. Make sure on you phone or pc to forget the current 2.4 network. Next connect to the “ new network with the simple password from your pc or phone.

next start the connection process with the Sena.

BTW this definitely needs to be addressed by Sena they should be ashamed of them selfs for releasing this with out a more simpler way to connect.
I had symbols in my password thats why I had a problem. Even after changing it to. Simple password I still had problems, for me only after removing the password completely was I able to connect the first time.

Sena these are $500 devices get you SHIT together this is 2021 not 2000.

Thanks man! I tried that and didn't work. The issue was that the WIFI adapter isn't staying connected constantly and/or having issues to connect. It'll connect long enough sometimes to get to the next step by connecting your home WIFI but fails right at that point or sooner. Worst part is that a bought a dual pack and they both do that. Now, even the WIFI adapter cable doesn't even register to my computer so I had to do it with my GoPro cable to update it.

    Fucking stupid!

I have to say that the 50r engineering is by far the worst. Not only this new WIFI adapter but even the mount!! WTF is this Velcro bullshit? Seriously!? Or the 2 way tape??? CMON! and a quick clip for the helmet mount? What a joke!

What happened Sena???? Definitely need to get your shit together! No wonder I keep getting told to go with Cardo.... Maybe I should have... Got to wait to find out the true moment when using mesh and Bluetooth.

Only thing so far good is that I haven't hit it with my shoulder and the sound is clear and loud.
