New 20S
What's happening with the 20S? Been announced a while ago, but still no sign of when it will be available? I'm looking forward to upgrading from the SMH10, but when?
Any news?

@Javier, you can check Spain's version of Amazon.com here 20S when it is in stock and available for purchase.

Hi Guys,
Can I please request a Link for the Sena smartphone app? I have been looking on google play with no luck.
Do you reward patience with a discount voucher? Thank you for launching at last. Can't wait to get my hands on the new 20S...

Just seen on the Facebook page that there will be a smartphone app to help control the 20S. Can't find it on Apple's App Store though. Any news on when this be actually available (for iOS)? 0 -
Facebook post from Sena says "mid June".
I'm good with that. We don't even have any units yet. I suspect that the delays in shipment of the units thus far have been firmware and iOS app development and testing. They probably had thousands of 20S units ready to go since before April, just waiting for firmware so they could be shipped. I'm anxious to see how the smartphone app dovetails with the unit myself. There are going to be a string of revisions before everyone is happy and that's ok. It'll be fun.

We're getting closer and things are coming together on Sena's site - I've now downloaded the user manual and although much of it appears very positive, there's one thing that still bothers me:-
Having read it through, I can see NO reference to the exact configuration I wish to use and that is with just one smartphone (iPhone in fact) that has built-in GPS. Nothing else (well apart from intercom obviously). First of all, this cannot now be an uncommon requirement as almost every smartphone includes GPS, so why would you want to lug around ANOTHER device just for GPS, especially when a smartphone app will likely be superior (and at least you'll have a choice of apps to use - can't do THAT with a dedicated GPS device). So the smartphone is a phone, a music source AND GPS. No need for any other device. But this is NOT included as an example setup in the manual. Why not and that's a bit worrying.
The problem previously is that the intercom device pairs to the phone with HFP (or equivalent) for phone calls and A2DP (or similar) for music. In this way, it knows when a phone call is being received and can give that priority. But it could not know the difference between music and GPS instructions as they will both use the same profile and so intercom would have higher priority and this meant that you would NOT receive GPS instructions while in intercom mode.
However, now the 20S can handle all this a bit better, but what impact does this have on the above problem? I'm hoping that it means music and/or GPS instructions are simply muted (i.e. lower volume, not off) when intercom audio is received, but does that mean all the time there is an intercom connection, or only when intercom audio is actually received? IOW, does the other audio mute just while the other party is actually speaking?
This has been the biggest problem with the SMH10 (and all other systems), but my hope is that the 20S does avoid this issue. However, despite it being what I believe is the most common usage, this particular configuration is NOT mentioned in the manual. Or at least, I couldn't find it.
So, could Sena comment on this particular aspect of the 20S? How does it handle the connection to a smartphone that provides all 3 functions, i.e. phone, music and GPS?

Ken,
Phone apps tend to use the A2DP profile to issue their sound. Your iPhone GPS app is going to mux with music in whatever way the app asks iOS to do so. This is not anything that SMH20S has under its control. Whatever you experience when you use the phone for turn-by-turn voice cues in your car is what you will also experience with the Sena.
If the GPS app itself accesses bluetooth, rather than the entire phone's existing A2DP connection, then, yeah, maybe you can do an HFP multipoint pairing thing and set the priority yourself. I've not personally seen any such apps, but that doesn't mean that they do not exist.

Does it pair with bluetooth 3.0 phones and intercons from other brands?
0 -
@Edgar: The 20S will pair with any Bluetooth enabled smart phone and can be paired to any non-Sena branded headset using the Universal Intercom feature that is currently available in our other headsets.
The 20S app is now available for Android and can be downloaded through the Google Play store. However, the iPhone app is currently in the review process at Apple and will be available soon.

My 20S was shipped to me today. I should have it by Friday or Saturday. Ordered from Spoiledbiker.com. Darlene was so kind and helpful to get the first ones that they received to us in time for our trip. My friends and I had pre-ordered months ago. We knew it was going to be close. Somehow, Darlene got moved to the top of the list.
I'll report on how they do as we learn to use them and take advantages of the new features compared to our SMH-10s.

My supplier still has no firm date and I'm running out of time before my bike trip starting in 2 weeks. But in the meantime, I'm trying to figure out what the accessories are as I will need a couple of additional mounts for other helmets. Can anyone enlighten me as to what exactly these are:-
20S-A0201 - Sena 20S Mounting Accessories 20S-A0202 - Sena 20S Universal Helmet Clamp Kit with Microphones I'm guessing the A0202 is a clamp plus one each of the 3 mic variations but could do with confirmation of that and I've NO idea what the A0201 is.
Anyone?

Thanks for those links to the accessories information. I've been checking the website, but the list of items were previously not links. Now they are, so must have been added recently. Thanks. 0 -
@ patouj SENA m'a confirmé que le device manager pour le 20S permettant de tout avoir en français sera disponible mi-juillet.
Si vous avez enregistré votre produit, vous serez prévenu par mail. Il ne nous reste qu'à attendre...

I now have the 20S and have been using it for a couple of days. When will the IPhone app be available? Devise Manager doesn't recognize it. When will the Manager be available? I use my phone through the GPS. Will I be able to use the IPhone app as I would prefer to not have to use phone through the 20S?

Forgot to say I like it so far.

I'm still playing with mine. Have it mounted. On the Schuberth C-3 Helmet, the microphone boom is about 2" too short. The 20S unit must be mounted behind the sun shade Mechanism on the side of the helmet. That's about 2 inches rearward of where it should be. So the microphone doesn't reach all the way around to the front, in front of my lips.
I may have to resort to the detached boom mic like I did on my SMH-10R if the current mic location picks up too much wind noise.
I wasn't expecting much from the FM radio. I mean, where's the antenna? Do one need to be in the middle of a metroplex for it to capture FM radio signals? I'm in a close suburb of Dallas and can only receive ONE station. I have the feeling that on the open road, no FM stations can be heard. It's not a deal breaker by any means, I'd have purchased without FM radio. But I'm working to see if I've done something wrong.
Looking forward to getting the iOS App. That'll be fun to play with; and maybe even more convenient to configure the unit. C'mon Apple. Get it approved.

Local dealers are now saying late July for 20S. Is this true 0 -
Ken,
You have an external antenna.... see page 12 of the .pdf user guide. You just push it towards the helmet and it'll pop up. The radio is working fine for me and I'm 26 miles north of downtown Dallas.
The app certainly helps program the FM stations, there are 10, speed dialing, group settings and basic settings.

The Sena Device Manager isn't ready for the 20S yet, so don't beat yourselves up when the program won't recognize the 20S. I tried a couple of PCs and waay too many USB ports before calling Sena. They said the Device Manager software will be updated when there are updates for the 20S.
Question for someone in the know... Will there be a plug offered to protect the speaker input if we want to unplug the stock speakers? I'd hate to leave the input exposed to water and debris.
Thumbs up Sena, awesome headset!!

@Larry: The Smartphone App for iPhone is currently under review at Apple and an update to the Device Manager that will allow it work with the 20S is coming shortly. In addition, the 20S needs to be paired and connected to the phone when you want to use the app.
@Ken: Since the Shuberth C3 is a modular helmet and has the sun visor switch where it is located then its best to use the wired boom microphone and have it placed between the cheeck pad and inner shell so that the microphone can reach your mouth unlke using the standard boom microphone.

Thank you, Sena. I used the wired boom mic with my 10R, but I never actually "glued" it in. It was always flopping. But with the 20S, I think I'll mount it permanently. Love the unit so far.

K9trider says "Local dealers are now saying late July for 20S." - where is local?
I'm guessing those that have received them are in the US?
Here in the UK, they've not reached the distributors yet. Have Sena actually shipped the units to only some countries?
It's getting very worrying as I'm away on the bike trip on the 5th July and had been under the impression that I would have the 20S in plenty of time. Now, it's all looking a bit tight and it would be VERY disappointing to have to go without due to the release delays.
It would be much appreciated if Sena could actually let us know when shipments have been made to the various markets and when they will finally be available.

Thanks, Chris. I honestly don't know if I had the antenna up or down. Probably down at the time. Good to know it works for you up in far N. Dallas, Plano, etc. I'm in Garland. I'll try that again.
I'll be glad when the iPhone app gets approved by Apple. Another fun toy.
Ken Gillett, I know what you mean. Four of us were sweating bullets that our Sena 20Ss wouldn't be here for our trip that starts in the first week in July. Two of us are upgrading. The other two bought at our recommendation. We pre-ordered from Spoiledbiker.com months ago; probably the first pre-orders they took. I think we were lucky that Spoiled Biker got some of the first ones from their distributor.
An email campaign to Sena Sales and your retailer might help your situation.

I am in fact a retailer, but want a 20S for myself (and riding buddy). Our UK distributor is my supplier and they have no real supply date, just Sena telling them they are on their way. If that were true, why can Sena not supply the shipping details so we could get an idea of when the distributor would receive them.
Having very successfully and happily used the SMH10 for several years, it's amazing how much I do NOT want to have to use it again this year after having been teased for so long with the notion of having the 20S.

Well, you have a position that the majority of us don't have. If anyone can get 'em, you should be able to.
I've used the 10R for a couple of years and like it a lot. I've taken many multi-day long trips (over 2,000 miles) with it. But with all the new features of the 20S, I couldn't wait to retire the 10. It was worse than waiting for Apple to come out with a new iPhone (and my contract to expire).
So the four of us were apparently pretty lucky that we got 4 of the very first ones shipped anywhere. Don't know how that happened except that our retailer must have been persistent.

Chris, I believe that I've discovered that the little antenna only extends the range of the Bluetooth intercom function. It's mentioned in the manual for intercom range extension, but not for FM radio.
To that end, I tested with antenna up or down. When I'm in a weak signal area, it made no difference.
I found that my home is in a weak signal area (apparently). When I go over towards the LBJ freeway (mile from my house), I get loads of FM stations. But here, one or two (and they're fuzzy).
It does work quite well when out of my neighborhood; and I was able to program several stations.

Got the 20S yesterday but should have read this tread.
Manager not working... (cannot connect the 20S to Imac, Win7 nor Win8.1 and need it to change the regional FM settings to FM...
(FM is the one and only reason for upgrading to the 20S as my SMH10B is/was working perfectly)
Iphone app not available (yet) so cannot use that to configure the 20S.
A friend with an android (Samsung) helped me with the app (and configuration of the FM radio setting) to finaly find that the FM radio is worhtless!Playing MP3 from my BMW Navigator 5 got interrupted (stopped) several times during a 45' ride. (had to reboot 20S and Nav5 to get it working again)
[Never ever had that problem with the SMH10]Haven't "tested" phone connection nor intercom yet.
Hope Sena solves the problems quickly!
Peter (extremely disappointed after waiting about 8 months to upgrade to the 20S!) :-(

Peter, I'm betting that there are plenty of people that will gladly pay you the full new price for your 20S, should you decide to abandon it.
I'm finding that the FM Radio works quite well when I'm in good areas. But with little or no antenna, I wasn't expecting much reception when 20 miles out from the DFW Metroplex. When traveling across New Mexico, Arizona, Colorado, Utah, I'm not expecting much at all from the FM radio I can revert to my Harley's FM radio in those cases. Right now, I'm playing with the auxiliary input. It's working wonderfully. Just plug in the audio source using the supplied cable and music comes forth.
I've also been playing with the voice commands. It's easy to turn Bluetooth music from my Zumo on or off by tapping the unit and saying "music" or "stereo". An added feature is being able to tell it to go up or down tracks and having the ability to turn it off or on is fantastic. It means that I don't have to fumble with the Zumo touch screen to turn the entertainment off or on. That's very, very cool; my 10R wouldn't do that. Worth the $269 all by itself.

When using 20S and SMH10 in the same group, the SMH10 is connected in the same way as other 20S and I may still connect another intercom from other brand or it´s connected as an alien intercom and I can have only one in the group?
Thanks,
