Sena 50R (Schuberth SC2) no longer works after V2.2 Build 3 firmware upgrade
I used the Device Manager to upgrade my firmware from V2.0 to V2.2 Build 3. The application said the firmware upgrade was successful. I now can't turn on the controller. The device Manager can no longer "find" the device, so I can't go back to the old firmware. I tried the 12 second hard reset but this also doesn't work. The controller had 90% battery before the upgrade. How can I recover form this situation?

Hi Tony, thank you for your input. An update on this issue (and others), I spent 30 minutes with Sena support who tried very hard, but we couldn't "revive" the device - however as it is a brand new device it could be a hardware problem and the fact it "died" after the upgrade could be coincidence - so they said that I had to do a warranty return. For those buying the Schuberth SC2 it is important to note that Sena provides the support on behalf of Schuberth - there is no Schuberth support - but the firmware comes from Schuberth and Sena can't/won't give support on the firmware, so there is no support for Schuberth firmware. However, regardless if the issue is hardware or firmware related the device needs to be returned to Schuberth under the warranty, which is proving difficult as Schuberth is ignoring the merchant. Anyone know how to get in contact with the Schuberth warranty returns team?

Hi Rob,
It sounds like you're dealing with a complex situation involving the Sena 50R (used with the Schuberth SC2) after upgrading to V2.2 Build 3 firmware. Unfortunately, it seems that the firmware upgrade might have caused the issue, preventing the controller from turning on or being recognized by the Sena Device Manager. Here are some steps you can follow to further troubleshoot the issue and explore possible solutions:
Steps to Try Before Returning the Device:Try Charging Again:
Fully charge the Sena 50R for at least 30 minutes using a known working USB cable and charger. Sometimes, devices can appear unresponsive if the battery level drops significantly during a firmware upgrade.
Try a Hard Reset Again:
Ensure you’re following the correct procedure to reset the device:Press and hold the power button for 12 seconds until you hear the device cycle off and then back on. This is typically how you perform a hard reset.
If this doesn’t work, you can try holding the volume + and center button simultaneously for 10-12 seconds to reset the device.
Ensure the controller is charged and not disconnected while trying these resets.Check USB Connection with Device Manager:
Try connecting the device to the Sena Device Manager again via USB. Even though the app previously couldn't recognize the device, sometimes the Device Manager can detect the device if it’s in a certain state (e.g., charging or in recovery mode).
If the Sena Device Manager doesn’t detect it, you might want to try it on a different computer or using a different USB port.Check for a Manual Firmware Recovery Option:
In some cases, you may be able to perform a manual firmware recovery by downloading the firmware file from the Sena website or contacting Sena support for specific recovery instructions.
If you're unable to access it through the Sena Device Manager, a manual firmware file might be required to reset the device.Firmware Rollback (if available):
Since you mentioned that Sena support couldn't help with rolling back the firmware, it might still be worth asking if there’s an official firmware rollback method. Sometimes, a rollback file is available upon request from Sena support.
Contact Schuberth for Warranty Assistance:
Since your device is part of the Schuberth SC2 system, and Sena provides support for it, Schuberth warranty handling might be necessary. If Schuberth is unresponsive, try reaching out to them directly via social media channels (like Twitter or Facebook) or use their online customer service chat for a faster response.
Additionally, if you purchased the product through a retailer, consider contacting them as they might be able to facilitate the return under warranty.
Key Takeaways:
Ensure the device is fully charged and attempt a hard reset again.
If the device still won't connect to the Sena Device Manager, consider manual recovery or asking Sena support for a firmware rollback option.
If it's still under warranty, contact Schuberth for a return or replacement, even though it’s been tricky to get a response. Alternatively, a retailer may help with the warranty process.
If the device is still not responsive after these steps, it may indeed be a hardware issue, and pursuing the warranty return with Schuberth may be the only remaining option.
