Failed to Recognize device Cannot open USB error on 20S EVO
I'm so frustrated. I have spent hours researching WHY this is happening. I am running Windows 10 on an HP laptop. I already called Sena, sent diagnostic logs and they say it's my USB cable....whatever! I'm using the one that came with the device. So, they send me a new one and I'm still getting the same error message. Please someone help! I've searched everywhere and tried everything. About ready to run this over w my car.

Here you go. (Sena won't help or support you- trust me, they have not replied to me since 2017!) You can find workarounds here:

It is not the cable. SENA data ports are failing on these devices. They will charge, but no computer will recognize the device once the port fails on the device. I have several SENA 20S devices.....some work and update with no issue using the same cable and device manager on my HP laptop. Has to be the devices.

LeRoy is correct. I have two Sena 20S Evo headsets, as well as two older Sena SMH10 headsets. When I first got the new 20S units they connected to my PC and I was able to update their firmware fine. Now, both of my 20S headsets are not recognized as USB devices by either of my PCs, yet both of the SMH10’s still connect no problem, so it is definitely not the cables I’m using. But, I think I figured out what caused the USB ports to fail, and I am partly to blame
The SMH10 units each came with both a USB cable and a cigarette lighter plug charger. I liked to keep one of the chargers in my tank bag so I could be charging one headset while using the other one. Stupidly, I assumed that charger would work on the 20S units as well, but I was wrong. Those chargers have 12V DC on the USB outputs, which the 20S units couldn’t tolerate. They would never even charge up using one those chargers. I think it was the 12V that blew out their USB ports. Luckily, they will still charge using a standard 5V DC USB charger, but I’ll never be able to update the firmware again. Also luckily they seem to run fine with the current version of firmware.
There are probably others out there that made the same mistake and assumed that the Sena SMH10 chargers would work on the Sena 20S headsets.
