Bob here - with an update .....

I just tried connecting the SMH10 unit on my helmet directly to the Goldwing adapter - and got right ear only.  I did the same with my Garmin and I got stereo.  So - I know the SMH10 headsets are working fine - still appears to be either a bad connector and/or something that I'm missing in the Goldwing audio system.

I have same problem with GL1500. Is it or isn't  possible to get stereo sound from Goldwing?

Sorry for not getting back and closing out this one.

It turns out I had 2 separate issues.  Tearing the bike down I found that the original Honda driver's audio cable was broken (rub wear under the storage box tore through the insulation) and the bare wires were shorting out.  So - first needed to get a new cable replacement (which it turns out my local GWRRA leader just happened to have available - YEA!).

Once I replaced that I still had intermittent sound - turns out the SM10 cable is bad - loose wiring appears to be where the audio output plug is attached.

So - I went with plan B - I bought a J&M bluetooth adapter - wires directly into the Goldwing harness, then Y's into two separate lines - one attaches to the driver audio cable should you want to use that, while the second provides an actual audio plug which connects directly into the SMH10 bluetooth unit.  And now I get perfectly good stereo from both the Goldwing onboard system, and the GPS system should I have that attached to the auxiliary port.

Hope this helps - totally possible, just need to get a good wiring configuration - and I'm guessing the SM10 adapter cable won't be part of it.

Let me know if I haven't been clear about what my ultimate solution was.
