It's pretty straightforward in the user guide, but I can understand your frustration. Follow the instructions in this video: https://senatech.box.com/s/p6ly1pjamzcr0dfdei3lanbb5pcnzpcj

It's not straightforward in the user guide. If user has a password protected network, autoconnect need to be disabled in order to enter the network password. To resolve the issue after connecting to Sena wifi device go to your phone wifi network settings, find Sena network name, then disable auto connect. Then go back to Sena app FW update and you will see your network SSID and can now enter your network password.

@... That video link isn't working (see screenshot). Can you repost? I've set up my Impulse helmet's wifi fine, but my husband's won't work. Still waiting to hear back from support.

    Thanks

The Update also does not work for me here. tried everything.
Poor service from Sena to link a dead page, see above.

Shall I send my new helmet back now? Would be the best...

I followed this guy's advice and it worked for me:

Shayne - Sena advised me to do the following which worked:

      1. Download the latest version of the Sena Bluetooth Device Manager app from their website. I currently have ver 4.3.8

      2. connect your Impulse helmet to your computer with the Magnetic USB cable provided

      3. open the SENA Device Manager and press and hold the (-) button (10-11 seconds) on your helmet until the LED turns white

      4. Then click twice on "Next" button in the SENA Device Manager.

      5. The Helmet, should then be recognized and the latest firmware version, should be displayed to you. (Initially it looked like it wasn't working but after 30 sec or so it recognized the helmet)

      6. Then keep following the prompts in the app to complete the firmware update. The LEDs in the back of the helmet indicate progress. It took a while - maybe 15-20 mins for the update to complete

So I did all this and I was able to update the helmet firmware ok. No wifi or bluetooth is needed - just the helmet connected by cable to the sena app. Now I just do this periodically.  It all worked fine.

Took me a few goes to get the helmet to connect to the PC and be recognised by the app. Good luck - hope you can work it out. Still working ok for me.

My version is 4.3.8 for a 64 bit windows PC. I think you version might be too old for this to work

To be clear, I’m updating the helmet using the Sena app on a windows PC not on a phone using that phone app they have.

Vance can I ask what's the latest software you've been able to update to using this method? Thanks

I went back to the Device Manager app after plugging my helmet back into my computer.  It says I have firmware version, "Impulse 1.2.2".

Do you know if I now have the latest version or should I start yelling, screaming, drinking and pulling my hair out again?

Haha, yes 1.2.2 is the latest (mine updated to it automatically using the wi-fi dongle) - will give hubby's another go this weekend 🤞🏼

I am 76, been using computers since they first came out back in the Stone Age and have rarely encountered stuff as frustrating as this Sena firmware update. Ironically, I will only use a little fraction of the things it can do like the fm radio and connecting to my Bluetooth mp3 player which I still can’t figure out. No problem doing that with my other Sena stuff like the sh10, etc. My phone connects and the music in it so all is not lost. Love the Harmon Kardon speakers, same in my BMW. Good luck with hubby’s helmet.

Didn't work Vance 😣 Really appreciate the advice though!  We also upgraded from an SMH10. Wasn't pretty but it (usually!) just worked.

And completely agree that the Sena ecosystem is arguably the worst software introduced since Windows Vista 😂 If it wasn't for the sound from those HK speakers....

You take care and keep on keepin' on!

Tried at the desktop computer. Mac app does not find Sena connected to USB... .
Windows App does find the Sena helmet. Offers update. Update downloaded. Update gets stuck at 20%.
Helmet factory reseted. Still gets stuck at 20%.
I could live with the old firmware - but, no announcements by the helmet, no matter what I set in the phone app... .

The helmet actually works, apart from missing voice.

Wifi update did not work at all.
Why are there so different methods to update and NONE one them works?
Hey Sena, this ist definitely the wrong way!

I will send the helmet back now and try another one...
Hope to have more success, otherwise I'll give up and buy something else.

My thoughts exactly.  Even though I apparently got lucky some how, I have little confidence in this helmet's comm system now.  Still considering returning it and going whole hog on a Shoei Neotech 3 and the Sena SRL 3 mesh system that fits in it to see if that is any better.  I hate needing to gamble like that.   :(

Phil, you are the man. I know you posted this a long time ago, but it helped me today because the problem has not been resolved. I received my new impulse helmet Today and have spent about two hours trying to do the update. I was disappointed when I came to the community area and saw someone answering that it was "pretty straightforward" on how to do the firmware upgrade. I used to run a technical support office for 4 different Internet service providers and there was nothing straightforward about the directions. I continued to look around and found your answer and it absolutely worked for me. Thank you from North Carolina in making my night better now.

It sounds frustrating dealing with the Sena Impulse firmware update process. Have you tried resetting the network settings on your device to see if the senaimpulse options appear? Sometimes a simple reset can solve connectivity issues. Hope this helps with your firmware update concerns!
