Proper Pairing Configuration??

One of the huge failings of Sena is the explanation of their pairing and usage case scenarios.  Starting on page 48 of the manual,  they show  the possible cases using graphics.  But there's no explanation about what will result.  For instance, if you pair the GPS at "GPS Pairing" in Case one, you will not be able to enjoy stereo  music from the GPS.  So many of us use the GPS for more than simple navigation.  My Zumo has XM radio, MP3, Audio Books, for instance. So case 1  won't  work for me.

So How about Case 2 on page 49?  Well, what they don't say is that pairing the GPS as a phone (phone 1) and pairing your iPhone  to the Garmin will cause the GPS to have the highest priority and interrupt intercom communications every time the Garmin lady says something or beeps from button pushing, weather warnings, traffic warnings, etc.  This means that when you need intercom communications the most, it'll be blanked out by the Garmin.   You cannot tell your riding partner why you're changing course, need to stop and check directions, etc.

There's a time delay after the GPS beeps before the intercom returns.  I think it's 5 - 8 seconds.  If the Garmin sounds off again, you lose intercom again (plus another 5 - 8 seconds).  The manual doesn't tell us any of this.

With Case 2, I believe you'll get what you need (with the one exception that the GPS will take priority over intercom at the worst possible times.   Your phone will be controlled by your Garmin.  I'm not sure if you can listen to your iPhone MP3 music through the Garmin or not, but the easiest solution to that is to copy your music files to the Garmin and use the Garmin to play music.   Will you be able to share your Garmin MP3 music with your intercom partner?  I don't know.  I think it can, but have never tried.   The manual doesn't hint at how Case 2 can be used and what to expect.

I hope this helps a bit.  My friends and I are going to great lengths to learn the best way to use our 20Ss.  It's not easy and the manual certainly could be more helpful.

@dmcahn: Based on the requirements that you have provided, you will want to pair iPhone 5S directly to the Zumo. Then you will need to pair the Zumo to the 20S using the Mobile Phone Pairing method so that you can answer phone calls and listen to music through the Zumo 590LM. Finally, you can pair 2 of the 20S headsets together using the Intercom Pairing method. This would be Case 2 in the User's Guide which Ken has already mentioned. Other than the Intercom pairing part, here is a video with a similar setup to yours: http://youtu.be/3ExqIxKWbGg.
