Mesh Intercom Specification
Hi Sena-Team,
I searched the internet for Mesh Intercom Specification in varoius versions (2.0, 3.0, 4.0) but found nothing. The question is, would you please point me to a location whe i can find or request it ? Or is it not common/independet standard but an internal Sena's development/property ?
Thanks

Hello Raphael,
The Mesh Intercom technology used by Sena is a proprietary system, meaning it's not based on an open or universal standard like Bluetooth or Wi-Fi. Because of this, the detailed specifications for the different versions (2.0, 3.0, 4.0) are generally not publicly disclosed, as they are part of Sena's internal development.
However, here’s what we can do:
1. Understanding Mesh Intercom Versions
-
Mesh Intercom 2.0: First introduced with Sena's 30K and 50S, it provides better range, connectivity stability, and the ability for multiple users (up to 16) to connect in a network with a dynamic, self-healing mesh.
-
Mesh Intercom 3.0: This version, found in newer models like the Sena 50R and 50S, further improves the stability of the network, the quality of audio, and the range.
-
Mesh Intercom 4.0: This is the latest iteration, offering enhanced connectivity and more flexible integration with Sena devices, but detailed specifications are still proprietary.
2. Mesh Intercom as a Proprietary System
Unlike Bluetooth, which is a global standard, Mesh Intercom is unique to Sena and is not based on open standards. This means:
-
Sena doesn’t typically release full technical specs (like bandwidth, detailed protocol layers, or internal features) for Mesh.
-
It is mainly used for communication between Sena devices in a mesh network, offering unique advantages for group rides.
3. Where to Get More Info
You may not find full technical specs for Mesh Intercom on public sites or documents, but here are some options:
-
Sena’s Official Documentation: The user manuals for each device (like the Sena 50S, 30K, 20S EVO, etc.) explain how Mesh Intercom works in practical terms and provide insights into features, range, and usage.
-
Sena Support Team: If you need more detailed information, reaching out directly to Sena’s Technical Support might provide you with additional clarification on Mesh versions, especially if you're working on specific product development or need to understand technical limitations.
-
Developer Access: If you're part of a development team or have business-related inquiries, you could inquire about access to Sena’s developer programs or licensing options for the Mesh technology.
Conclusion
Mesh Intercom is a proprietary Sena development, and while the detailed specs for versions like 2.0, 3.0, or 4.0 are generally not publicly available, you can still find practical usage details in Sena product manuals or by directly contacting Sena Support for specific technical queries.
Let me know if you'd like help with anything else!

Hi,
thank you for the explanation. I was wondering because various manufacturers (like Cardo or EJEAS) tell us they support mesh intercom, each in other version. However it seams that each manufacturer has its own specification for mesh intercom which is technically not compatible with other manufacturers and we probably won't live to see Sena and Cardo (or others) talking to each other via mesh intercom.
