I have also requested that change, the issue there is usb are lower voltage than the 12v lighter. My suggestion was to wire the connector to the loom where the light is getting power from using the factory mtw connector. Get rid of the coiled wire and shorten them to a leight the would allow to remove the glove box. Remove the din connection plug and   use the same method to wire that to the loom connector. Finally provide a split seal for the hole where the lighter was. And provide mounting instructions to install Freewire in the box or (in my installation) the lid. wire is out of sight along with the freewire thus reducing wet and theft.

I would just like to know what the power requirement is.  Lighter is 12 volt, usb is 5v.  Is the charger output 12 or 5 vdc?

I don't like using the cigar lighter jack to permanent mount the freewire.  There is no keeper for the unit connector and no keeper for the cigar lighter.  It is inviting intermittent operation.
