20S Randomly beeps and shut downs
Hello all. I just purchased my 20s unit yesterday. I noticed right away that when I had the multitasking enabled, I could not talk to another unit (Sena SPH10) when listening to my satellite radio connected through the auxiliary port. The sph10 simply could not hear me and I could not hear them through the intercom.
I finally figured out how to shut off multitasking and was able to intercom successfully. Although I was paired successfully and could intercom successfully, my unit would just randomly shut off. During this setup I was using the speakers that come with the unit
I was paired to my iphone 7 through bluetooth, the other headset and was listening to my satellite through the auxiliary cord. I went home and updated the firmware and did a factory reset per the help desk which caused MORE problems.
Now I am paired to my iphone 7 and the other headset through blue tooth and listened to the satellite radio through auxiliary but added my iphone earbuds to the mess through the headset port. Now comes the horror. I can intercom the other unit, but while conversing I get an ear blowing beep which nearly blows your ears out. It will do this a few times and if you leave the intercom on, the unit will shut off. The other problem is that when it shuts off, it loses all the configurations I just set.
I was told by the company I purchased this unit from that I can plug the earbuds into the headset port and it will automatically shut off the included speakers. They also told me I could take the speakers out and plug the earbuds into the speakers port instead. I guess I'll try that next.
Is there a fix for this? Its almost unusable if I can't get this thing fixed as I can't be turning off the multitasking so I can use the intercom, every time this thing shuts itself off. Maybe I should return it and try the Packtalk instead? Any suggestions? This thing was too expensive to not work as expected!!!
As stated above, the help desk has already been contacted and they had me do a factory reset which caused more problems. HELP!!!

Hi Gcoleman,
I was experiencing the same thing for the last week using standard configuration with an iPhone SE equipped with TomTom nav App and using a second 20s with my wife for intercom.
My wife didn't experience the beeps and shutdowns during the trip. She has an iPhone 7 connected to her headset. I doubt that it's a problem with the iPhones, because we are both running the same iOS Version.
It seems to be the beep is caused by a firmware bug which leads to a crash eventually - that is when the Sena suts off.
Both our headsets used the 1.7.1 firmware during that trip. I never had such problems with older firmware versions.
I will now update to 1.7.5 and see if the problem will go away...
I'll keep you posted.Cheers

Yes! Keep me posted. Mine is being returned on warranty as I type this so I'll be out of a unit until the replacement comes. They won't take a unit back and give you your money back unless you purchased it on their website. I purchased mine at a Cycle Gear store in California when I was on a motorcycle trip and am miles and miles from there now so I can't return it to the store. Let me know what you find out and I'll keep you posted as to whether or not the replacement unit blows my ear drums out with the loud beeping and then shutting down.

Just to add to the observations:
I had days when it didn't happen at all. On other days it happened regularly once or twqice every hour. I really could not dfigure out what's causing this.
It most certainly isn't battery low which I was anticipating at first.

Mine did the same thing. I used it for about 5 hours and then it did it about three times - shutting off every time. It always lost all the configurations too so I had to pull over and reconfigure so I could talk to my husband who was now WAY ahead of me because I couldn't tell him I couldn't talk to him. I did not like that we couldn't use the multitasking - which is why I spent so much money on it in the first place. I sure hope the replacement unit works or I'll be out almost $400.

Well I found out the difference between our 2 Headsets.
I was using 1.71 English (beep and crash)
and my wife was on 1.7.1 German. (no problems)
So maybe there IS a bug in the firmware which causes this.

After updating to 1.7.5 the problem stayed the same.
So I have to go back to 1.6.2 were I never had such problems. We will see....

I’ve had the same problem with one of my 20S units most of this summer-it may have started after a software update, can’t really recall the timeline...Sena has told me to do this and do that but nothing has worked. The units are about three years old, so I was told today that they will not be covered under warranty. So (as you guys know) I now have $500 invested in headsets that are totally worthless because one of them keeps shutting down. I’m going to try some more settings changes to see if it helps at all.
Please let me know if guys come up with a solution! I assume it’s a software thing since my headsets are three years old and Gcolemans are new..

I sent mine out for warranty work a couple of months ago and still don't have it back. Its getting to cold to ride here now so by the time I get the thing back to use it, it will likely not be covered by warranty any longer. When I do get it back, I think I'll try to sell it and get a Pack Talk set. I wished I would have gone through this site before purchasing and I would have known this problem is nearly unfixable. I hope you find some answers, Bskjack3.

Wilhelm,
if if the reversion back to a previous firmware version took care of the issue, I’d love to hear about it!

Sorry for not reporting back earlier.
The only thing that helped a bit, was resetting to factory defaults and reconfiguring it. The random beeps are still there, but it doesn't crash any more.
Cheers
Wilhelm
