Static when listening to Music

Hi all, I just purchased the HD branded Sena 50s. I keep getting occasional static when listening to music (Pandora via and IPhone). Ever 20 to 30 seconds, I will get background static or garbling that will last a moment and then resolve. This only seems to happen with music. The intercom does not have this issue, it sounds loud and clear when chatting with my wife (who is my passenger). It does not seem related to volume setting, the static is the same when I increase or decrease volume, and it doesn’t seem to be distortion. Any ideas?

  Hi Bruce Hartwell,

  The static you're experiencing might be related to the whim/freewire system on your Harley Davidson. This kind of static noise can occur due to electrical interference between the HD whim or freewire (if you're using one). It's worth noting that the speakers on your HD device are different from what we use on our own systems, and they also have different firmware.

  Interestingly, vibrations and poor ground connections on the bike can sometimes lead to static noise being transmitted through the boom speakers or headset unit. I'm assuming your bike is a 2017 or newer Street Glide, but if it's not, please let me know.

  You can test for any low static noise by putting your ear against the speakers on your bike, if you have them. Listen for any low static noises when the bike's ignition is on, the radio is off, and your ear is against the speaker unit. However, even if your bike doesn't have speakers, static can still originate from other sources than the headset itself.

  As an additional insight, I've found that the proximity of my phone to the TFT of our test Street Glide caused interference and resulted in static noise. It might be worthwhile to check if your Harley Davidson has any new firmware updates available. You can find them through this link:
