Shuts off at random
After reading about all the other poor folk who've gotten duped by SENA with this, I decided to give it one last try. I went in and turned off VOX phone, audio multitasking, tap-tap, so as to not overwhelm the communicators. I charged both, and went on a ride with pillion (so that the 20s would be at a foot from one another). Within 5 minutes, I was talking to myself. My pillion pointed out that my unit had shut off by itself... AGAIN. Went to another site - a place that sells the 20S online - where the reviews are disastrous and shameful. On top of releasing a lemon, SENA has simply stopped all support for the units it seems. There are problems with the hardware, with the software (programming/glitches), and with the support. What the heck are we paying for? I'd even understand bragging rights, but the units not being waterproof means that you might be riding around with a condom on top of the communicator in order to keep it dry. Not the coolest bragging rights, and at my age, not really something I can do and also respect myself in the morning. If you're reading this comment, let me save you from wasting your money. Buy anything else under the sun, just not a SENA 20S. Interphone F5s work fabulously, as do the F4 and F3.

I hope you guys are right about replacement. The unit has completely failed now. It will not turn on. Full charge with a blue led and it will not power on. Plug it into the computer and the Sena Manager cannot find it. Shame. i updated it to firmware 1.5 yesterday and was looking forward to using it today. It lasted all of 30 minutes this morning. It shut off once and I was able to turn it back on. It shut down a second time and was dead. Really strange. Must be a hardware issue of some sort. Sent a response to my trouble ticket along with the diagnostic logs from the Sena app. Really disappointed at the moment. I haven't ridden without music, gps, or someone talking to me since last February.

bought my Sena 20S-01D from Amazon as I had heard great reviews. One of the units keeps switching off and is extremely frustrating. From various forums it appears that this is a manufacturing defect and is being experienced by almost all who have bought one. I live in India and the unit was carried from the US by a friend. I have no way i can avail guarantee or replacement because there is no outlet here in India for Sena devices. 460$ is alot of money down the drain, if one isnt able to get any help??? Would appreciate if anyone can advise me how to take this issue forward???

I am having the same issue with random power off. My issue seems to be temperature related. when the temp is below 45deg F it randomly turns off with no warning or notice. above 45 it works fine. I'm not a fair weather rider. I ride every day as long as there is no snow or ice on the road. this is annoying. I am going to request a ticket.

Yep i have the same problem too except i figured out what is wrong with mine. Every time i put my helmet on or my helmet moves while i am riding, The wire coming from the batter to the connector moves and powers off, very irritating.

So something interesting and may point the SENA folks in the right direction towards fixing this issue.
I 'had' a blackberry Z10 previously and never had any issues with the Sena. Once I got a newer phone (android), I got the same shutdown issue we're all here to discuss. I've tried every suggestion from this, and many more online blogs, to no avail. So I grabbed my old blackberry, charged 'er up, connected to my Sena, and no issues.
I have a hunch that the Sena and later BT versions are not playing well with each other. I've tried a few of my friends phones and any one of them with BT 4.1 / 4.2, this problem exists. My old blackberry and a friend who had a old droid max (also BT4.0) my Sena worked as expected.
Sena, I'm not sure if this is 'code' related, or hardware....but hopefully it gives you something to look into, if not already known to you guys....Not like we'll ever know since EVERY forum has absolutely zero responses from your team (which BTW is not very professional).

update on my above post.....
so I went into the Android Marshmellow App Settings and reset all permissions..... then completely reset the SENA and deleted the Bluetooth connection from my phone.
oddly, everything seems to be working perfectly. I think somewhere in the many configuration settings you can do on an Android, I must have done something that prevented the phone from 'beaconing' to the SENA. I'm not sure what setting it was, but I suspect (again, oddly) the location setting for the phone-app. Some things just get weird when you deny location-settings. I had that denied lots of location-settings on the initial configuration, but after accepting all the app permissions (post resetting them), the SENA is working fantastic with no more shut-offs.....and the phone works again.

Had our Scarla rider units a couple of months now, one unit randomly switches itself off, neither of the units Vox system works - communicates. We both using Nokia phones one unit "mine" whilst trying to play music locked up my phone to a point that l had to remove the phone battery to reset the phone. At first l thought it must be user error we will sort it, but after numerous attempts updating and resetting the units I am coming to the conclusion things are not good, and now the comments on here well!!!. Previously to these units we used a set of £60 BT units off ebay, 2 years use and none of these issues. Hopefully Scala play ball and resolve the matter

Add me to the growing list of 20S owners whose unit randomly shuts down. When the music dies and/or my GPS says Bluetooth device disconnected, I realize the 20S has shut down and I need to power it back on. This happened with earlier firmware versions and with the latest (1.7.1). It was at its worst today, shutting off at least 6 times in the course of 90 minutes while running errands around town. Not sure if weather/temperature is a factor, but it was ~34 degrees. The 20S is connected (Bluetooth) to a Zumo 660 GPS and a SM10 (music from iPod and radar detector audio). My phone (iPhone 6s) is connected (Bluetooth) to the GPS (but not to the 20S) so that I can visually screen calls. Intercom use is not a factor as I have been riding solo when it randomly shuts off.
