Please make sure that the firmware on the 20S is using the latest version which is v1.6.2. Then perform a Factory Reset on the 20S (refer to the online User's Guide for instructions). After the Factory Reset, power the headset back and test to see if someone can hear you when you speak into the microphone.

Thanks, Chris.  I followed your instructions and updated the firmware from v1.4.x to v1.6.2, then did a factory reset.  It made no difference, unfortunately.  I could hear the radio, CB radio, GPS instructions, voice command responses, and phone from the bike - but could not answer, give commands,  or transmit via CB.

This weekend, I had the opportunity to test the SENA with two other riders who have both Harley CB and the new 20S SENA clamp kit.  Theirs worked fine.  As before, I could hear everything, but could not transmit.  When on bluetooth SENA to SENA, however, it worked properly.  I could talk normally with the other riders via the bluetooth intercom.

I borrowed one of their helmets and hooked it to my bike, and things worked great: I could hear everything *and* transmit voice commands, talk on the cell phone, and transmit via CB radio.

I went back to my helmet, and then swapped the SENA 'head' unit with another rider.  Still could not transmit.  We then swapped the cord (helmet to Harley).  Still could not transmit. Went back to my friend's helmet - worked fine.

So, I don't think the problem is with the main unit (regardless of firmware, the guy I used was not upgraded), and I don't think it is a cord problem.  I have not had the time yet to try and take off the unit and replace the microphone with one from my old SENA headset, but I don't think the mic is the problem, either, because it works fine with SENA to SENA communications.

My real concern is that I leave early on 18 August for a 2-week ride, where I am the road captain for about 50 bikes.  In previous years, I have had multiple headsets and multiple microphones, trying to juggle CB radio and SENA communications.  Unless you have some other troubleshooting ideas, can I get a replacement helmet clamp kit that quickly?   I really need to figure out a way to make this work, thank you.

I recently bought 2 Sena 20s' and 2 of the Harley clamp sets, 20s-a0203.  One works, the other the microphone appears not work.  As the previous post, all the Sena to Sena etc works fine.  We switched helmet/bikes and swapped the connecting cords.  Also tried with and without the Sena attached.  Both Senas are updated to the current firmware though by trying without the Sena connected, I can't see how that would matter.

The previous post was 2 months ago, is there no response from Sena?

Oh I should have added... the Harleys involved... 2011 FLHTK and 2013 FLTRX.

Hi, Gary.  SENA was very responsive, and they quickly replaced my defective Harley clamp set.  I received the new one and it worked fine  I used it for a 2,000+ mile trip - using it every day with both CB and SENA to SENA communications as part of a large group, and it worked flawlessly.

I would contact SENA and ask them for a replacement.

    Thanks Nick.

From the look of the thread, it didn't seem resolved.

You are correct.  I guess that I should have gone back and updated it....but I was too focused on my then upcoming trip!

I was pleasantly surprised at the speed an helpfulness of the SENA folks.  They didn't even ask or wait for the defective one.  They just sent me the new one.

Nick - I had the same issue and am now trying my replacement clamp with the same results: Cannot broadcast successfully over Harley CB radio but Sena functions beautifully between Sena units. Am at wit's end.

Hey, Steve.  I've pretty much given up on the Freewire.

Just finished a 3-week 5,500 mile cross-country trip, and I never got the Freewire to be able to transmit.

I found that using the 20S synched to my phone was OK. I could not effectively use my HD navigation system with voice commands, but I was able to use Waze on my phone.  When I needed CB (when I was traveling part of the route with others who had no bluetooth), I just plugged in the cord.

I'll probably add the new HD bluetooth capability to my 2016 Road Glide eventually.  I'm just disappointed in Sena, but still like the 20s.

    Hey Nick,

Thanks for your response and glad your long trip was successful.

I was actually referring to the Harley Adapter Clamp, 20S-A0203.

Was tempted to try the Freewire, but since I've already wasted $130 trying to merge my Harley/Sena technology, I may give up. "Plugging in the cord" just isn't working for me, and no one else in my northern Virginia riding community is trying out using the Sena adapter.

    Best, Steve

the anser to your problem is that once you activate the bluetooth your wired connection becomes useless.... I found out the hard way and none of the dealers were aware of this issue. Also be aware that this sena unit is not compatible with other non sena units, harley does not offer a parts breakdown to get additional mounts if you have multiple helmets. This was all about money for harley. The product may be good on its own but not ready for the harley marriage . Ive been in contact with harley customer care , waiting for a return call. I will contact sena directly as well. One other thing.... the 20s is obsolete for harley... its not the 20s evo....

I just wanted to leave an update.  I've ignored the Sena Freewire for almost a year.  But I got interested in the WHIM recently, and watched a video by the "Law Abiding Biker" dude, where he again sang the praises of the Freewire over installing the WHIM.  So, I went back to the well.....

I got it working!  What it took was simply using a paper clip to push the reset button on the back of the Sena 20s!  I first updated the firmware on both the Sena and the Freewire, and then did a factory reset of both.  I also pushed the pin in the back of the Freewire, but still no success.

Finally, in frustration, I tried the pin in the back of the Sena 20s, ...and it worked!  I can now transmit on CB, cell phone, and Navigation commands.  I don't use intercom, so I don't know about that.

My cell is paired with my HD radio.  I disconnected it from pairing directly with the Sena 20s. I can clearly receive and make calls, provide voice commands to the HD radio and Nav, talk on CB, and use the Sena bluetooth for communication with other units.

The only problem is that the Harley Davidson base clamp will not work.  I was using that because I was using the Sena plus the HD 7-pin cable for the CB.  I got everything to work with just the Sena standard base clamp. I tried switching back to the HD, but that still did not work.

Of course, assuming that everything continues to work ok, I won't need the HD clamp anyway.
