@Bill: The way the motion sensor is triggered has been changed from firmware version 1.0 so that it is not easily activated while riding. Now in v1.1, the motion sensor can be activated by slowly double tapping the surface of the 20S (not the Jog Dial). Each tap of the surface of the main unit should be one second apart. With the Motion Sensor Sensitivity set to high in the Configuration Menu, a small amount of force is needed when double tapping. When the sensitivity is set to low, then more force is needed but still double tapping the surface of the main unit one second apart.

Additionally you can double tap the surface of the helmet around the 20S to trigger the motion sensor too.

I have the same problem.  Haven't tried a reset though.  I really need to tap very very hard in order for sena to listen.  In standby this isn't an issue because I just say: Hello Sena.  But when listening to music, that doesn't work (see other ticket).

Robert, perhaps I should have said sensitivity is set at HIGH by the Sena configuration software. Even so it did not respond to numerous tap-tap's, either with or without gloves on.

In any case since I have not heard back on my trouble ticket for 2 days I took my unit back to the place I bought it, Performance Cycle of Denver.  What great service I got from Jarrett and Paul.  They were on the phone with Sena and told me what's stated above, that the motion sensor sensitivity had been lowered on firmware 1.1.  I'm not sure why you'd do that since you could also adjust the sensitivity down using the configuration software.  In any case Paul swapped my main units for different new ones out of a new box and sent e on my way, hopefully for a better experience.  I was told not to do the firmware update.  Hopefully this will work.  If not though I am pretty confident hat Sena and these guys are not going to leave anyone high and dry.  They're working on the problems, which is all I can ask for.

As a suggestion try to tap the left side of your "helmet" (not the 20S body) as in this video demo: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ps8GuFHiuJ0

One of the big complaints from my three friends using the 20Ss on our inaugural trip with them was that the Sena lady kept saying, "Say a command", "Say a command."  "Say a command."  Turning the sensitivity to low helped two of them.  The third never was able to get the Sena lady to hush up.  Mine . . . . never a problem.

With firmware 1.1.1 I'm getting excellent results with the tap if I tap the helmet firmly just in front of the 20S.  Triple-taps seem the most reliable.  I was trying to skip audio tracks on my commute today and couldn't get "Hello Sena" to work but tap-tap-tap "Next" worked almost every time.

Are you suppose to be able to just say hello sena and then the command and  it should respond? I never knew this, I read the manual and my interpretation was that the hello Sena only worked in standby mode, which from what i can gather is anytime there is no sound coming from the speakers or at start-up.

Will have to go try this here when I bail out of the office here shorlty.

Yes, you are supposed to be able to say "Hello Sena" and she comes on.  Alternatively Tap-tap gets her.  However, if you have something wired in to your AUX port they said that overrides the voice command.  At least that's what I was told by Sena support, which I guess is not always the straight story.  They seem unwilling to be very open about what they are working on or how things work.

I agree with you. Actually, I could not get the "double tap" to work at all on either of our units (we purchased the dual). The initial voice command "Hello Sena" works well, but it only works in stand-by mode. Once you have something else playing, you must use the double-tap. I called the tech support and their advise was to "tap harder." I did and nothing. "Even harder" was the reply. After several rounds of this, I finally got it to work. It took a VERY HARD smack with my knuckles to get it to work. There is no way this could ever work with gloves on. I feel this is a huge shortcoming of the 20S since most people prefer voice commands over the complicated tapping commands to access the various functions. (BTW in the instructional video, they are using finger tapping and it works! Shouldn't my brand new unit also require only a finger tap?)

Tap-Tap is working for me; however, even set at High, it seems that I really have to bang very hard against my helmet (scared to strike the 20s this hard!)

That's really odd.  Four of us using the 20Ss for 10 days; one of the problems was that the Sena lady kept saying, "Say a command".  The wind jostling the helmet, I presume, was being interpreted by the unit as double-tapping.

The fix was to turn the sensitivity to low.  That worked for all but one of us.   He had to turn it off.

I had this problem as well. The double tap was working great for me. I was able to start and stop my music and place a speed dial call. However, at some point, I received an incoming call and answered by pressing the phone button (because speaking "Hello" did not work). After taking the incoming call, the double tap did not work at all for the remainder of the ride.

For those that are still having trouble activating the voice commands after updating the 20S with the latest firmware please check this video:

I find the tap tap very erratic. Sometimes I have to hot the helmet very hard to ghetto to work, sometimes I just tap it lightly and it works and sometimes nothing works. It seems sometimes I just have to wait a while and try again.

in the original version, and also in V1.1.1 - my double tap is just not working...  nearly impossible to get it to respond to a double tap...I have not changed any sensitivity settings on the Sena 20s.....  I have not tried tapping on the helmet but will try that next time....

In the recently released v1.2 firmware for the 20S, you can now access the voice command system by tapping the Ambient Mode button once.

Running Version 1.3 and the TAP TAP has never worked for me no matter how long or short I made my tap intervals.

Same issue here. What I've found is that at first the double-tap is rapid but slows between taps up to one or two seconds between taps sometimes.

I have the same issue.  on my 20s, with version 1.3 firmware, I have never been able to get the voice command to work at all.   double tap the unit, the helmsmen, slow 1 second apart, fast, etc.  Even try the ambient mode button one time to see if that triggered the voice commands.  but nothing.  I have reset it to factory several times, tried it with no changes to factory default, etc.  Is this a defective device?  I upgraded by Scala G3 to this, expected better.  I am seriously considering going back to my G3.  it wasn't great, but it worked for the most part.  I haven't yet gotten more than music and GPS to work on mine.  No phones yet.  Any suggestions?

Can motion sensitivity be turned OFF?

The Sena lady interrupts me with "Say a command."  "Say a command."  "Say a command"; sometimes up to 4 times a minute  or even more.  I have learned to reply with "Cancel" each time.  It is extremely annoying and distracting.  This happens at highway speeds when riding in strong winds.  (I'm in Texas . . . nuff said)

My motion sensitivity is turned to HIGH (Using the Sena configuration on my computer).

I can do without motion detection if that's what it takes to keep the Sena lady quiet while I ride.

    Ken,

I have the same problem. I have about a 15 minute drive to work, and I find my self saying "Cancel" 15 to 20 times during the ride to work if I leave motion sensitivity set to High. I changed it to "Low" and it resolved that issue. However, Tap-Tap is essentially useless on Low. I've never gotten the Tap-Tap to work on Low. That's less annoying than "Say a Command" every thirty seconds.

@Ken: High means most sensitive to vibration.  Have you tried Low?
