how to get ipod to play in the helmet with the cable hooked up

I cannot get the music to play in the helmet with the cable hooked up. What do I do to get the ipod to play in the helmet.

  To listen to music using the 2.5 to 3.5 mm Audio Cable, use the iPod to control the playback of the music (play/pause, track forward, track backward) and increase the volume on the iPod and use the Jog Dial on the 20S to control the volume level of the music while you are listening to it in your helmet.
