I have one headset that connects up and updates with no issues and one that is not being recognized. The unit has updated previously with no issues.

It is likely your port.  I got the same error, changed USB ports and no error.  If you only have one USB port:

    Re-install the USB Controllers.

    a) Click Start and type devmgmt.msc, and then press Enter.
    b) Expand the Universal Serial Bus Controllers section.
    c) Uninstall each of the devices under the USB Controller section by right-clicking on each one, and then clicking Uninstall.
    d) Close the Device Manager and restart your computer.

Windows will automatically re-install the USB controllers in your computer, without you having to do anything further. Your computer should now run USB devices properly.

Ken, did you notice that he said one of his units is recognized correctly.  If so, then he has no port problem.

David,  I had the same problem with my device not being recognized.  I thought I purchased a SENA 10S, but could not get recognition following the instructions on the SENA DEVICE MANAGER.

I looked on the backside of the SENA "10S" and it was identified as a 10B!  So I treated it as a 10B for the purpose of DEVICE REGCOGNITION and it worked.  Specifically, I POWERED IT UP during DEVICE RECOGNITION, as thought it were "ANOTHER DEVICE"  not a 10S.  Maybe SENA will correct this misdirection so other customers will not have the same problem.

I had the same issue with my Sena Headset 10s on my Windows 7 64Bit Laptop. During installation the device was recognized. But after the installation was completed the Sena device manager was not able to recognize my headset.

I have checked the USB- cable, tried a different USB-port but issue was still there.

Than I have found a video at youtube were a guy explains how to re-install the driver and how to check the usb-connection. It is the same check like during the installation of the software. You can find the programms in the Sena installation path under “Programs”

    here is my default path

    C:\Program Files (x86)\Sena Technologies\SenaBluetoothDeviceManager

With the program UsbCheck.exe you can check the connection again. If this works the device manager should in theory recognize the headtset.

I tried it and yes, my device was recognized without issues. So, back to the device manger and again: unable to recognize usb device

I had a look again into the windows device manager and I was able to find a device with the “?” and it was identified as “RAZOR” computer mouse. Hä, WTF a computer mouse from “RAZOR”? But I am using mouse from another vendor. But I have used a razor mouse in the past. Can it be that this old driver interacts somehow with the driver from Sena? Okay, right click on the “RAZOR” device and un-installed it with deletion of the drivers. Than I re-connected everything again like I did it before restarted the device manager and TAAADAAAA! Sena 10S headset was recognized.

To make long story short, an old usb driver from RAZOR was the cause why my 10S headset was not recognized by the sena device manager.

    I hope this helps someone.

    BR

    Online research shows this:

"I know this is old, but it is an old problem that Sena STILL refuses to fix. The problem is that 64 bit Windows 10 demands that device drivers be signed by Microsoft, and Sena refuses to send them for signing."

    To Sena Engineers:

I resolved by temporarily disabling signed driver checks. (bcdedit /set testsigning on) - this requires a reboot, and after installing the drivers, it must be re-enabled for system security and safety. (bcdedit /set testsigning off)

You SERIOUSLY need to update you drivers. Almost NOBODY still runs the long obsolete Windows XP, yet a huge section of your inf file is devoted to those drivers, while current OSes are unsupported.

You also need to submit your updated drivers for 64-bit Windows 10 to Microsoft for signing.

Failure on your part to address this, or even to acknowledge it is sheer laziness on your part, and I'll be posting this all over in the forums to hopefully help others avoid the many hours I had to spend resolving the problems caused by Sena shortcomings.

Same issue happened to me. Windows 10, SMH5. Drivers installed, but the application won't find my Sena device saying "Failed to recognize device. Cannot open USB"

Awful that Sena support haven't even commented on this or other driver related posts. Willful ignorance.

Will give Sena 30 days to reply, then I'm ditching the SMH5 and buying from a reptuable company.

    Same issue

It was my last buy from Sena.

I have a Sena 20S Evo which is still running on version 1,77 and I am unable to update it since I always get the following message on my iMacOS Catalina (10.15.4) and both PC running under windows 7 and windows 10:
    "cannot open USB 1 N ».
Also I am unable to connect it to the Sena APP on my iPhone Xs (13.4.1).
The only way that works is the Sena APP on my Samsung Galaxy.

I have contacted support and they offered a discount if i bought a new unit.

otherwise bad luck, they do not have the ability to fix units.

is there a way to fix these things ?

Robert, yes, I posted this on August 04, 2019:

    See above in comments.

Oh, my apologies, that is for Windows 10.  I'm unsure how to fix for Mac.  I think I found the fix through Windows on adventureriders.com.  Perhaps you can search on google for a fix on the Mac.

    Good luck!

If not, do you know anyone with a Windows 10 PC that can update it for you?

One more idea:  Is your Mac powerful enough to run Windows 10 in a virtual machine?

    @Robert/Pete

    Thanks for the threads.

    I have the same issue.

Failed to recognize device. Cannot open USB [1][N].

My opinion: It's not a problem on the PC or Mac. I try the following without success:

    • Different USB-cables.
    • Different Sena-Sorfware (NEXX- and Sena Device Manger).
    • Different workflows to connect the device with the Mac.
    • Tried the same procedures on iMac OS X.
    • Tried the same procedures on a Windows 10 Workstation.
    • Reset the SMC on my iMac.

Output of the Sena Device Manager Log:

    [Manager Information]
Status: Failed to recognize device. Cannot open USB [1][N]

Hyper Pete - You nailed it here. "You also need to submit your updated drivers for 64-bit Windows 10 to Microsoft for signing."

This is exactly what's happening. When you look at the device (in my case, "Sena SMH5") in Device Manager, it even says, "Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

Their terrible tech support just ignores this simple fix because all they care about is your money.  It is not profitable for them to resolve problems when they can just try to sell you more (defective) hardware.

Robert Baxter - Yes, look at my two replies; the 1st on August 14, 2019, and the second on May 06, 2020 19:51 (above).

It's a workaround, not a fix.  Sena has refused to address this since 2017.

Robert Baxter - Correct. I've had an open ticket with Sena since May 12, 2020. Their help desk replied a couple times over the course of a couple weeks saying there was still no fix to the driver signature issue (the latest response from them was May 28, 2020). I just checked my ticket again now and see it was set to "SOLVED". I just sent them another email to this ticket lighting them up, saying it is certainly NOT solved and referenced this thread. I asked them to keep my support ticket open until it is actually solved.

Hyper Pete - I finally got the firmware update to work.  Amazing how hard that was.  It was also a problem with the port on both my helmets, they would not update firmware unless I wiggled the cable.  Work fine for charing, but whatever...

PAINFUL.  If someone didnt know computers they probably wouldnt get this done.

I tried the driver signature but sadly didn't fix me. I was plugged into the front usb's. these usb's as far I can tell work fine as I use them for connecting my void corsair wireless to the dongle plugged into these usb.

what seems to have fixed my issue is I plugged into the motherboard 3.0 usb. nothing changed in device manager. I simply tried again came back to this thread, went back to check and it was ready witht he correct device and current version. keep in mind this took 500 tries still... update finished....updating is such a pain in the ass. myself and a friend are new riders, this is such a disappointment. someone please recommend me a easier to update device.

I also have a ticket open and it will be interesting to see how long until I get a response.

I have confirmed within my Device Manager the following Error when the Sena product attempts to connect:

Windows cannot verify the digital signature for the drivers required for this device. A recent hardware or software change might have installed a file that is signed incorrectly or damaged, or that might be malicious software from an unknown source. (Code 52)".

Shame on Sena for putting out/using an unsigned driver with no resolution.  Windows 10 has been out for quite some time and prevents unsigned drivers; driver signature verification is enabled for security reasons.

Even with "temporary" disabling the driver signature enforcement, I was unable to get the manager to work. Could be my security policies. It likely requires a permanent change which I am both unable and unwilling to do.

Very disappointed and after two (2) different model Sena products that I own (with same update issues)!

I'm getting the same error with a 10C Evo. Anyone had any success getting one to pair with a mac? Unfortunately, the new macs only have USB-C ports and I'm wondering if that's an issue.
