Ripping out the HJC 50B is probably a good solution - the SENA 50 wouldn't have been more expensive either.

But then I definitely won't buy an HJC helmet again.

I like the compact and balanced solution built into the helmet by HJC, but if there are no updates...  :-(

    Hi Alex - Sena Support

and for me in the other Post "Wish Firmware-Update" wrote HJC:

"I am sorry for the misunderstanding but we do not control when there is an update on these units. SENA will be in charge of when there will be new versions or updates."

I still hope that the update comes quickly and is comprehensive for all errors and bugs.
Then I can keep my combination and be satisfied...

    Thanks

I wrote to HJC a week ago and got a reply, nothing new actually. There is a big firmware update coming, which will fix a lot of bugs (especially the noise, it was explicitly promised) and MESH 3.0 will be implemented. It is supposed to come out this year, but they couldn't give me a more precise time frame. I hope it comes out this season...

    Hello,

HJC has just released a new firmware update for the HJC 50B. The latest version is v2.5.

Please note that firmware release notes and updates for the HJC 50B are managed by HJC, not SENA. You will need to wait for HJC to publish the release notes.

Yay, thanks for the update! Just checked and the HJC App shows no update for my 50b, at least not yet, but might take a few days to get worked through their system...

    Thanks!

    Excellent news Alex.
I assume the update will be similar to the latest 50r update and include all previous bug fixes the 50r had.

Which is referenced here for v2.5 On the 50r/50s

    https://www.sena.com/en-eu/stories/notice/sena-releases-firmware-updates-for-the-50s-50r-2/

Thanks again for all your assistance, let's hope things are better going forward.

Hi all, I received the following mail from Alex (but due to medical reasons I have not been able to test this):

    Hello Marc,

    Good news!

I just received a feedback from our upper management about the issue.

Please see below for your reference.

To update your HJC 50B to v2.5, please download the attached firmware file to be used in updating and follow the instructions provided below:

To update the firmware via a provided firmware file,
    1. Open Smart HJC Device Manager and connect your device to the computer via a USB Power & Data Cable
    2. Once Smart HJC Device Manager recognizes your device, click on browse and select the firmware file  (50B-v2.5-build0) that was downloaded (Double-click the file or select Open).
    - >
    3. Then click on update and wait for it to finish .

    4. Once it finishes updating, your device should be loaded with the selected firmware.

    5. Please Select "Next" -> "New Device" before you unplug the USB Cable from the HJC 50B.

    Thank you,

Nice, I'll only be able to DL the new FW in a few hours, but I'm looking forward to it.

As I've assumed SENA just took the latest 50S/50R release and compiled it for the 50B...

Took long enough to get to thls point...

Well well, the day finally came.

My 50B set is updating at the moment of me writing this, which is August 29th 10:16 UTC+2.

It's indeed v2.5. I'm eager to test the results!

You proberly need to update the SMART HJC Device Manager to 1.3.4 first.

    Haven't seen the releasenotes yet.

After connecting the helmet to the computer and starting the HJC application, the program itself suggested updating to 1.3.4 and after the update there was a proposal to update the intercom to 2.5, which I did. Now only tests to see if the update helped. I hope they fixed all the errors.

To remain cautiously optimistic. With version 2.5, I was now at least able to connect to a different brand of Bluetooth intercom (Cardo), and the sound quality is quite good so far. I will take it to the road this evening.

    @...

It's most definetly using Model SP128's version of the Firmware, I've just updated mine and checked, Version 2.4 of the SP128 FW added the "Battery indicator when powering on the device", which is present now with the 50B.

Here's self-compiled version of the changes:

    • Added Bluetooth Private Intercom feature
    • Modified the “Answer” and “Ignore” voice commands to be enabled or disabled if VOX Phone is enabled or disabled
    • Minor bug fix with the sound quality degrading while using Bluetooth Intercom if the Bluetooth Intercom Audio Multitasking feature was enabled and music or the FM radio was being heard first before the Bluetooth Intercom connection was made
    • Increased the volume for the FM radio
    • Added a battery indicator when powering on the device
    • Improved Mesh Intercom communication quality
    • Minor bug fix with using the “Hey Sena, Previous” voice command
    • Minor bug fix the VOX Intercom setting when powering it off through the Sena Motorcycles App
    • Minor bug fix with hearing the save preset voice prompt multiple times when saving a preset while listening to the FM radio
    • Minor bug fix with saving a FM radio station after using the Scan and the Temporary Preset features on the Sena Motorcycles App
    • Minor bug fix with the quality of Bluetooth Intercom communication after being connected for an extended period of time
    • Users can now cancel when the headset automatically enters “Phone Pairing” by tapping any button
    • Increased the maximum volume of the FM radio

Also they added a few features like:

"Hey Sena" Voice commands now work, well, it's wonky in english, but works well for me in german
Mesh-Reach-Out is now a thing, idk how it works on the 50B yet tho, the 50S/R have a button for this maybe Sena Marketing can explain how it was implemented?
Google and Siri voice commands can now be enabled / disabled
    etc.

Yes, there is definitely more to it than just the Mesh update alone. I also noticed the battery message at startup and the 'Hey Google' option now works as well. Unfortunatly radio reception is just as poor.

Oh, Mesh 3.0 isn't yet implemented, that comes later, when Sena releases the 60S/R, would be strange to make such a significant update for OEM models first while Sena hasn't even released their official devices.

At this point I'd guess we'll all have to get new helmets since (if there's one) the 60B will probably be for newer helmet models...

Shame to hear the radio reception is still poor.
Anyone tried the Bluetooth Intercom range yet.
This is my biggest bug bear
Connected to my mates cardo on my old Nexx xcom2 gave us amazing range
The 50b is woeful in the same scenario.

I was very disappointed after purchasing a HJC I71 and the 50B headset that integrates so nicely, only 2 weeks ago. Used for commutes every day, the main functions required by me are the FM radio and phone features. poor audio quality very tinny, poor volume, bad FM reception, no audio from phone satnav over the radio, and there is no logic to accessing the menus via the buttons. This purchase should have been an upgrade to my 9 year old Interphone F5MC that has seen me through commutes all year round and has been swapped around various helmets, and has a very logical navigation through the functions.

The I71 helmet is lovely, but is pointless unless you choose one of the integrated HJC headsets and the headset at least does what it says on the tin in a user-friendly way. I have now installed the new firmware but the only things that I can say has improved is the FM reception and the radio volume, still no satnav audio, and what do 'V' and 'M' stand for on the buttons????

I will say at this point I will never purchase another crash helmet that has provision for a specific integrated headset and I'm unlikely to purchase another Sena headset based on the customer support, and blame passing between Sena and HJC.

I do hope the issues are resolved and my current level of disappointment mellows, but I won't be holding my breath

I'm one of those rare males who RTFM before the hardware comes out of the box. this was my personal experience and i just don't find the menu navigation via the buttons very intuitive,

Had the same problem: tried on another PC with same result, then used another cable and it worked. Did you try the cable supplied with the 50B?

Could be that the successful attempt was on a USB 2 port (I dont remember,  but the failures were definitely on USB 3 ports) ...

Strange. I updated mine via a USB2.0 connection and it went fine. Is Your unit still functioning with the v1.0 firmware? Than maybe a factory reset before updating can help. The unit should then be switched 'off' before connecting it to your pc. Hopefully your units current software is not corrupted.

I will try on other computers my friend told me today that he had a similar problem in schinert C5 he had to dig up some old computer to make it work... now the set works perfectly... I would even say that the battery is draining worryingly slowly. Today after about 7h of driving on mesh and bt with the phone it dropped to 52% my friend schuberth sc2 landed 3h in front of the house...

Hi there! It seems like there’s a delay in the firmware update for the HJC Smart 50B. Do you know if there’s a specific timeline or any steps you can follow to manually update it to the latest version, or is it something the manufacturer needs to release?

The most up-to date FW for the 50B is 2.5, which is equivalent to FW 2.5/2.5.1 on the Sena 50S/R

The next update is scheduled for release "later this year" with Mesh 3.0 Support according to Sena (see earlier in this thread)

A few answers above you can find the 2.5 Build to manually update your 50B

New firmware versions for the 50S and 50R with Mesh 3.0 support are already available. I understand that Sena tells us it is HJC’s responsibility to release the updates, but as the brand owner and licensor of its devices to third parties, they should push the reselling brands to follow the update roadmap.

The overall impression is that neither Sena nor HJC are making enough effort to keep 50B users up to date with the updates, which is quite disappointing considering this is a product that costs around 250 euros or more, depending on the retailer.

Now it's too late, but for my next helmet, I will look for other solutions that don’t leave me feeling abandoned by both parties.

All we can do now is wait for HJC to decide to update us with Mesh 3.0 support—if they have even considered it.
