10C Pro Firmware Update Device Recognition Issue
Any solutions to "Failure to recognize device. Cannot. open USB [1][N]" on a Mac?

Have you formatted the sd card via the phone app yet?
Tip, if you have the unit connected to the computer via USB the wifi connection wont work, so you need to unplug the usb first and then do the wifi connect procedure.0 -

Thank you for the tip. I just did it again as you suggested; same results.
I have tried reinstalling the device manager, using different SENA provided usb cables, different computers. No luck!

That's a shame... I know you really need to go through the procedure in the exact order as the manual..., as in when you connect and power on etc.

I think I may be able to help you, as I've been tearing my hair out having just bought the 10C Pro, only to face the same problem. I repeatedly downloaded the Device Manager app to my Mac; rebooted, rebooted and rebooted again; and used multiple cables. All to no avail.
In the end I had an exchange of emails with a really helpful guy in Support. At the end of a fruitless process of elimination, he asked my what USB ports I had on my Mac, because - unbelievably - the camera apparently won't talk to anything other than USB 2.0!!!
I found this hard to believe considering my Mac dates to mid-2012 and still utilises USB 3.0 but I thought I'd better check. Luckily, I have an even older computer that I was able to hook up to and, sure enough, I found that by using a USB 2.0 port the camera was immediately recognised and the firmware was then successfully updated.
So, a solution if you have a computer with USB 2.0 ports. However, what gives with regard to product that's just been released and that can't connect successfully to any modern computer?

I also had this issue & luckily came across a post that said you need to turn the camera function on for it to be recognised (ie not just powered on but press top button to turn camera on...) Hey presto my Mac with USB 3.00 & 3.1 then recognised it. Not sure whether it was plugged in to 3 or 3.1...

Sorry, forgot to add holding down camera button for 5secs. Here is the chap's specific wording:
I had trouble with this the other day, because it can charge and record at the same time you need to let the unit know that you want to take the footage off not just keep using it.

Connect it to the computer using the Usb cable

Turn on the unit

Turn on the camera

Press and hold the camera button for about 5 seconds and it will slow up as an external drive.

Thanks Sean! That's certainly got over the problem of the SD card not being recognised by the computer as an external drive - now I just need to find a way to get Sena Device Manager to recognise the device so that I can use it for firmware updates.
Oh, and I only needed to turn the camera on for the card to show up in Finder - I didn't need to hold it down or anything.

Glad that helped Tony. I did have problems getting device manager to recognise it. I thought the camera on trick solved it but now I'm not sure... I do know I had to try several times but in the end it did & I got the firmware update (using USB 3 connection..)
I think I was making the mistake of turning the device on before pressing the phone button for 5secs then next as per the instruction:
1. Power off your product and connect it to your Mac using the supplied microUSB cable.
- 10C Pro: Make sure a microSD card (up to 64GB) is inserted in the 10C Pro's microSD card slot then hold down the Phone Button for more than 5 seconds.
Mine connects every time now... Good luck!

To be honest, not being able to read the SD card would have been the final straw, so your solution to that was a life-saver. As for Device Manager, I've tried absolutely everything to no avail. I'm lucky enough to have an old laptop but even so that's a real workaround as opposed to any kind of real solution.
I'm intrigued to see what Sena comes up with next, and I'll update this thread if there's any kind of resolution to the issue.

I am very annoyed with this and have never got my 10C Pro connected. I have tried all three of the following:
1. Do you hold for 5 seconds, release and then press next?
2. Do you hold for 5 seconds and then click next without releasing the phone button?
3. Do you hold for 5 seconds and then click next, then release the phone button?Any advise welcome

I have struggled for ages to get my 10C Pro firmware updated. The problem would seem to be my computer is too up to date. I have both USB 2.0 and 3.0 and, despite numerous internet claims that the Sena Bluetooth manager will only work on USB 2.0, it seems that it is even more picky than that. I used an old computer with old USB 2.0 ports and it worked first time perfectly. With my new machine it refused to work throwing up error messages that didnt really make sense "Not the recognised device", "Unable to get status [1][0]" and so on. Even the Sena support technicians werent any help. I got lots of suggestions, but no real help. My advise to anyone strugling with a firmware upgrade to a Sena 10C Pro using the Sena Bluteooth manager is to try to get an older version of the USB 2.0 ports. Then complain bitterly to Sena that they should do a bit more software testing, because quite obviously, they are not interested in correcting this problem. If it leads to lost sales in the future, and I am seriously thinking of alternatives, then maybe they'll do something!

Keith Irving - my first question to you is, are you using MacOS or Windows? I have had a similar issue. The short and only answer to update the firmware consistently and confidently is to use the Windows client. The MacOS client does not work, regardless what the support documents tell you.
Use Windows and follow the instructions on the screen and it works every time.

Win 10 Pro. It never worked on my newer machine. It worked first time on my older machine (also Win10 Pro same version). It can only be the manager cannot communicate with modern USB ports.

I'm struggling with this. Using windows and it will not recognise my device, cannot open USB. I've turned the camera on after reading the above and still no joy. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If you have a machine with USB 2.0 ports, use one of them. I'm pretty sure that the problem is that Sena are too lazy to update the software and it cannot handle modern ports. It certainly wont work over USB 3.0. I tried the USB 2.0 ports on my new machine and they didnt work. I suspect that modern USB 2.0 ports also have something going on that the Sena Bluetooth manager doesnt like and you need to use an older motherboard with an earlier version of USB 2.0 hardware.

It's scandalous, isn't it? No point waiting for a software update either - Sena have advised me that it's actually a hardware compatibility issue!

I did everything that I could do to figure this out. I finally found a method that worked. I am using a MacBook for the set up and it has USB 3.0, I got my sena 2nd hand and it didn't come with the cable. So I had to keep switching out the ones I had till I finally recognized the sena. But now I have a new issue, the update only gets to 31% and then tells me there's an issue with my sd card, I've already tried formatting the sd card in the sena, so any help would be great. Thanks!

My device is recognized with PC, but cannot update the software.
only 14% then failure with code [4[[1}, i dont know what it is.
my 10c pro problem is cannot record the video, i thought the SD card should be formatted.
it is also my problem, cannot find how to format SD card in this device.
