10C Pro USB connectivity - hard to believe!!!
I've been tearing my hair out having just bought the 10C Pro, only to find that I couldn't update the firmware (I was getting the usual device not recognised, couldn't open the USB message).. I repeatedly downloaded the Device Manager app to my Mac; rebooted, rebooted and rebooted again; and used multiple cables. All to no avail.
In the end I had an exchange of emails with a really helpful guy in Support. At the end of a fruitless process of elimination, he asked my what USB ports I had on my Mac, because - unbelievably - the camera apparently won't talk to anything other than USB 2.0!!!
I found this hard to believe considering my Mac dates to mid-2012 and still utilises USB 3.0 but I thought I'd better check. Luckily, I have an even older computer that I was able to hook up to and, sure enough, I found that by using a USB 2.0 port the camera was immediately recognised and the firmware was then successfully updated.
So, a solution if you have a computer with USB 2.0 ports. However, what gives with regard to product that's just been released and that can't connect successfully to any modern computer? I'm still completely dumbstruck, but really just wanted to somehow confirm with other users that this is in fact correct. Or, perhaps, it's just a Mac issue and not something that affects PC users?
Can anyone shed further light on this?

Make sure the camera function is turned on (top button). My new Mac then recognised it with USB 3. Videos then show in Finder (or Windows Explorer..) for easy transfer of videos to your computer as well. Hope this helps.

Here's his wording:
I had trouble with this the other day, because it can charge and record at the same time you need to let the unit know that you want to take the footage off not just keep using it.
-
Connect it to the computer using the Usb cable
-
Turn on the unit
-
Turn on the camera
-
Press and hold the camera button for about 5 seconds and it will slow up as an external drive.

I have struggled for ages to get my 10C Pro firmware updated. The problem would seem to be my computer is too up to date. I have both USB 2.0 and 3.0 and, despite numerous internet claims that the Sena Bluetooth manager will only work on USB 2.0, it seems that it is even more picky than that. I used an old computer with old USB 2.0 ports and it worked first time perfectly. With my new machine it refused to work throwing up error messages that didnt really make sense "Not the recognised device", "Unable to get status [1][0]" and so on. Even the Sena support technicians werent any help. I got lots of suggestions, but no real help. My advise to anyone strugling with a firmware upgrade to a Sena 10C Pro using the Sena Bluteooth manager is to try to get an older version of the USB 2.0 ports. Then complain bitterly to Sena that they should do a bit more software testing, because quite obviously, they are not interested in correcting this problem. If it leads to lost sales in the future, and I am seriously thinking of alternatives, then maybe they'll do something!

Hi Guys,
I spent two hours messing around with this, chasing all sorts of thing. I thought I was using the original, supplied USB cable (tried two I had). Room mate walks in with his original Sena supplied USB cable.....Hey presto! it worked straight away.

You're lucky, Mark - Sena sent me a new cable and it made no difference whatsoever. Two years down the line and I still have a product that, to my mind, is unfit for purpose.
The moment anther manufacturer produces a combined camera and comms unit I'm off.

In fairness, I worked for a major, aftermarket engine management manufacturer for 20 year here in Australia. Chasing and fixing comms issues when laptops/windows/windows updates changes was a monumental task, I doubt moving to another manufacturer would solve this.
Perhaps SENA should have the ability to load firmware updates onto the SD card and then all the laptop needs to do is download and save it there..........SENA? You listening?
