SOLVED: SMART HJC 50B – phone and motorcycle cannot stay connected simultaneously
I finally solved a Bluetooth problem that had been bothering me for approximately six months. I tried pairing the devices dozens of times and was close to returning the headset as defective.
My setup:
- SMART HJC 50B
- Samsung Galaxy S23
- Honda Africa Twin CRF1100
The problem was that the headset would connect to either the phone or the motorcycle, but connecting one device disconnected the other.
The solution was:
- Pair the smartphone using Phone Pairing.
- Pair the motorcycle using Second Mobile Phone Pairing.
After pairing the Honda through Second Mobile Phone Pairing, both the phone and motorcycle remained connected simultaneously and everything worked correctly.
The confusing part is the name “Second Mobile Phone Pairing.” It sounds as though this mode is intended only for a second mobile phone. In reality, it is the second independent Bluetooth slot and can also be used for a motorcycle infotainment system or GPS device.
In simple terms:
- Smartphone → Phone Pairing
- Motorcycle/GPS → Second Mobile Phone Pairing
If connecting your motorcycle causes your phone to disconnect, do not pair both devices through normal Phone Pairing. Use Second Mobile Phone Pairing for the motorcycle.
My headset was not defective. The problem was caused by unclear terminology and insufficient instructions. Even customer support did not identify this solution, so I hope this post saves someone else many hours of unnecessary troubleshooting.
