Only thorough trial-and-error, we found out we had to turn off all VOX settings on the head sets in order to get it to stop. We haven't had an issue since.

When my wife and I aren't riding together, out paired (we bought a 2-kit) sets also do this. she's almost to the extent to never turn it on unless we are riding together .. which makes it practical...
