Sena Stryker wont update.
Hi guys,
today i bought a new Sena Stryker helmet and i cant get it to upgrade its firmware version.
The Helmet is successfully connected to my Wi-Fi Network and the Sena Motorcycle App (and also the Sena WiFi Accessories App) will find it in my network and start the Firmware Update process but it doesnt go over 0% and the back led on the helmet wont make any sign of progression either.
I tried it with different devices (2 Android Devices aka my Smartphone and my Tablet and an iPhone 13) but it just stays at 0%.
I also tried to update over the Device Manager Software from Sena but my helmet isnt recognized by the Software (tried this on my Notebook and my desktop PC with W10 installed on both devices).
Can you guys help me? Maybe im doing something wrong...

I fixed the issue:
I gave the helmet back to the seller and buyed another helmet with an external cardo intercom where the App and Updates (OTA) works flawless.
Wanna say thanks though to Sena for the lack of customer support and to add another company to my "dont buy from them" list.

Having a external intercom is better than one thats not separatable from the helmet. when you need to switch to a new helmet for some reason you can move the intercom module over then.

Thats a solid point you made. But since this was my first intercom i thought the helmet would be better because it was kinda plug&play.
Also i talked to the employes where i buyed the helmet and some of them said that the Sena app is in a catastrophic condition when it comes to stability and usability. And since i9 wasnt able to update the intercoms firmware which was built in the helmet i can confirm that. Thats why i changed to Cardo (Freecom 2X) and the OTA Update worked first try.

the 2 new Sena helmets got a crappy design since the USB on those is charging-only (easy to notice with the magnetic plug only having 3 pins) so everything is limited to the badly-implemented WiFi part (its crappy enough that i managed to extract the software running on that part (bought me the Impulse last year for poking around at its firmware, found a few quirks already on other models before)with redirecting the connections it did, (back then it used plain unencrypted HTTP to talk to the sena servers). Found more sloppyness after investigating closer (more bugs for having fun with))
Compared to a Shoei Neotec2 the impulse also had a really cheap feel.

Thanks for your reply. Are you sure it is a usb loading plug only? Because i tried to connect the Stryker via USB to my W10 PC and the device Manager sowed up "Sena Stryker" Device found. Yet the Sena PC Software didnt recognised the helmet.
I went with a Shoei GT Air II and i have to admit that the Sena Stryker didnt feel like like it has a good build quality comparing to the Shoei even if they are similar in price.
That the Sena update Server used an unencryptet HTTP is kinda pain in the ass. Overall there software is not as good as you could expect when buying such high priced products. So i guess the HTTP thing is just the cherry on top of all this mess.

Back then it was that way with the impulse. didnt see anything appearing in the device manager. the SRL-series from sena (those that use the special mount at the GT-air 2 and the Neotec2) were never that picky. And good choice with a shoei lid, a GT-air 2 is my backup lid (switched to the Neotec2 when i wanted the flip-up comfort).
Another funfact: with some legwork and research (did that and documented it in code-form at my github) you can replace the prompts (like the hello and goodbye or the others) with custom ones at most of the current sena models. Easy to do since the sena software for the PC allows to use local files (can also downgrade if you got the right firmware files around which i got mirrored to archive.org since sometimes they are wanted here). Cardo updater doesnt allow that (and most of their models don't use the right firmware structure, got those in my archives, too)

Seems like you did some work there wirth analyzing the firmware and possibilities that it potentially has. :-D
But since i am a friend of plug&play i went with the cardo (also the cardo uses USB-C and supports charge while riding) so overall the cardo was the best choice for me after being disappointed by the stability issues Sena seems to have with their software. It also wasnt possible to downgrade the firmware for me because it was the first firmware released (i think the Sena Stryker Firmware was 1.0.2).
Saw your GitHub a few days ago when i buyed the helmet but like i said: i like it plug&play and i think a company who is selling specialised intercoms for motorcycle riders should be capable of providing a software which is stable and usable.
The Stryker was my first Impression of Sena but i think it will be my last since inmho cardo does the job better (especially when it comes to terms of software usability).

IT/computer nerd with too much time in the cold time of the year (the time when you can't be out in the twisties). Some of my tooling could be used for futzing around with cardo devices, too but no way to sneak in changed prompts on most there. (haven't found enough hardware/chip documentation on the newer chips yet to find a way to sneak something in, got some of their devices as reference for my research, though).

I see :-D keep up the good work, maybe Sena can hire you to fix their shitty soft- and firmware problems.
Thank you again for giving me some details onto the problems with their products though.
But since i'll go with a cardo now im out here :-D
See you again and good luck with your projects in the future.

Won't happen, Sena does their development in south korea (thats where their HQ is, some leftover comments in some files on the update part of the Impulse gave me a language hint) and i'm from germany.

Some antivirus or firewall software might interfere among us with the update process. Try temporarily disabling them before attempting the update again.

Double-check that your Wi-Fi network is stable and has a strong signal where your helmet is located. A weak or unstable half body sexdoll connection could interfere with the firmware update process.Make sure that both the Sena Motorcycle App and the Sena Device Manager Software are updated to the latest versions. Outdated software can sometimes cause compatibility issues.

It sounds frustrating that your new Sena Stryker helmet won't upgrade its firmware. Have you tried restarting both your helmet and your router? Sometimes, a reboot helps establish a better connection. Also, ensure your apps are updated. If all else fails, consider resetting the helmet to factory settings. Meanwhile, take a break and try playing the Dinosaur Game to ease the stress!
