I am having this exact problem. It's like a circular process, where I tells me to power off the 50S and connect it, but when I do, it won't see it.

the support from Sena is AMAZING.  I mean this problem has been going on for years, and they don't address.

What amazingly POOR ENGINEERING, support, etc.  I do not recommend these products to anyone.

I am having exact same issue.  Also the language in the documentation is so clear, for a while I didn't realize that they had firmware upgrades to the really crap WIFI device and then also to headset/main unit.   Sena should be embarrassed

To bring closure to this thread, I wanted to post the final resolution. It was a hardware problem and Sena replaced the 50S unit. I needed a copy of my receipt (<2yrs old) and had to pay the shipping. In return, I received a new unit. Took less than 2 weeks.

When it works, it works. So no need to struggle like I did looking for some trick to make the update work. Good luck!

My experience was the same as Brian’s. Sena replaced mine, even though I could not find proof of purchase. Now it works perfectly.

Thank you @Brian and @Luca C Rattazzi.  How did you contact them?  I do have my proof of purchase.  Just trying to find the phone number or email address.

I emailed support. It took a bit, so be patient. But they got it done.

I called but they just redirected me to the warranty support form on the web page

Both of my 50s' have junk batteries.  Sena is NO HELP so far and just wants to waste my time making me do obviously useless procedures to their bad product.

Cardo will be my next purchase.

Check to see if you can update via computer and USB cord that works for data (not just charging) if the computer does not recognize that you have plugged in a USB device, then the port may be bad.

I got a replacement 50s from them (after paying shipping)...  But they sent me one with firmware v1.0...  And of course, it's not updating.

Way to go Sena!  You had a chance to do SOMETHING (anything?) right, and you botched it.

    Update:

After eFFing around with it for almost an hour, it randomly updated.  (I did not use the wifi adaptor).

I will not ever recommend this company to anybody like I have in the past. I have been having this sane issue with firmware and the unit shutting off after only 3 minutes of being on. Emailing the help desk is a joke, responses are few and far between and don't make a whole lot of sense. The only instruction I've been given is to reset the unit "And it should work. Feel free to contact us ifbit doesn't work." I've been dealing with this for months now and gotten nowhere. The last they told me was to get the receipt which I no longer have thank to a California disaster. And the store I bought it from updated their system and can't seem to locate some information anymore, like my receipt. So I'm screwed on all this now. I've given the serial number, pics of the sticker on the back and they can't look anything up off that.

I have bought several helmet Bluetooth units, for myself as well as gifts for fellow riders and they have all been Sena products. I will absolutely not be wasting my money on this crap anymore. The product is fantastic....WHEN IT WORKS! But the after service is clearly lacking when their product fails, and they obviously don't stand behind it unless the receipt is being waved in the air. What if somebody got it second hand? Or like my friends were gifted one? I don't have some of those receipts either, they were with mine and ashes now.

Thank you Sena for helping me out on this. You've lost a pretty good and loyal customer.

Sena Bluetooth Device Manager on PC.  I was finally able to have it recognize the 50s when I plugged it into a USB 2 port (first gen), not the newer USB 3 (blue).

also, you can’t use supplied SENA charging / WiFi cord.  Use a regular usb2 to usb type c.
