What happened to the ring tones in the new SMH-10 models?
I had 2 SMH-10 - the old, non-firmware upgradable models. Everything worked perfectly, and when a phone call came in, I would hear the ring tone associated with the phone's contact (first an iPhone 4, then an iPhone 4S) and could opt whether to answer or not.
One of the SMH10 broke, and the replacement I received (excellent customer service, BTW - **I** broke the unit by falling, it wasn't a defective unit, but I received a free replacement anyways) is a new SMH-10 running v3.3.
Bu now, no matter how I pair the iPhone 4S (always performing factory resets in between pairing and "forgetting" the device on the iPhone), the SMH10 plays a generic tone on incoming calls, while only the iPhone itself plays the ringtone (which of course I can't hear as the bike's too loud). I now have no idea of who's calling and end up having to stop to see who it it. Before with the old models the ringtone would be heard thru the headset, and the iPhone would remain silent.
While I feel bad posting this as I received a free replacement for something I broke (and I repeatedly asked to pay for...!), unfortunately the new unit is almost useless as-is, since I have to stop every time I get a call. Am I missing something...? Is this a known bug?
Thanks,
Roberto

Found the solution... downgrade to the firmware v3.1. That one brings back the ringtones to the headset. From this item in the release notes for v3.2:
Alert incoming phone call while an intercom conversation is in progress to prevent sudden disconnection of intercom
I'm guessing that when Sena added the above "feature" they "broke" the ringtones. Neither v3.2 nor v3.3 work, but v3.1 does.
How much I miss the old non-upgradeable SMH10...

There is a separate discussion related to this issue. I don't mind the generic ring tone. It just needs to be louder to be able to hear it. Hearing the callers voice is fine but it is impossible to hear the incoming call tone at motorway speeds to start the conversation in the first place.
I think it would be good to be able to adjust the volume of the ring tone in the same way that you can for other input sources.

FYI if anyone is interested, Sena fixed the ringtone issue in the firmware 4.1. With 4.1 ringtones are back, and the mic gain has also been fixed so now Siri on iPhones recognizes voice commands again as in the pre-v3.1 firmware. So with 4.1 we now have finally the same features available in the original, non-upgreadable SMH-10 :)

Look like new SMH-10 (v3.3) not play ringtone same like old one. Now it just make one basic sound, and iPhone ringtone not go through headset. Maybe firmware change this.
Try this:
- Check update – Maybe new firmware fix it. visit site
- Bluetooth settings – See if change profile help (HFP, A2DP).
- iPhone settings – Go Settings > Bluetooth, tap SMH-10, check audio options.
- Pair different way – Try pair hands-free first, then audio.
- Ask Sena support – Maybe they know fix.
