Reset after Firmware update?
I recently updated to v4.2.1 a month ago. I have had a few bugs since then. Sound quality from helmet to helmet is a lot better though..
This past weekend, I shut it off while stopping for lunch to save battery. After lunch, it wouldn't turn back on. I did a firmware restore when I got home. Seemed to work fine.
I was advised anytime after doing a firmware update, I should do a factory reset. So I did and it and it sent my SMH10 back to v4.1.1 Kinda went backwards. Is that what is recommended? Did I do something wrong?

Hi Biraz340,
Performing a factory reset will not revert your firmware back. A firmware update is permanent and only another firmware update can change the version of your firmware. Now that you have done a factory reset, try to use your SMH10 to see if you still have the power on issue.

Thanks, however when I plugged it back in, it showed that the current version was set back to 4.1.1.
I put the 4.2.1 back on.

Phone is able to charge on ANY charger I've given it so far: usb/computer, Garmin chargers, and a slew of other 12v car adapters. The only problem is the Sena 12v car adapters. They only work on the SMH10s and NONE of my other devices like Webcric site working on all device. I agree with your conclusion that they're putting out a very low amperage - just enough for the SMH10 and my other usb devices need more. Too bad they can't be used globally, like all the other adapters I've tried.

After some firmware updates, Sena devices can sometimes reset unexpectedly, which has caused confusion for several users. , This is a fairly common issue, and checking device settings as well as following the proper update procedures usually helps prevent data loss. It’s always a good idea to back up configurations before updating to avoid surprises.

You didn’t do anything wrong. What likely happened is that the factory reset also restored the previous firmware profile stored on the device, which is why it reverted back to v4.1.1. On the SMH10, a factory reset clears settings and pairings, but depending on the restore method, it can roll back to the last stable firmware image.
Recommended approach:
-
Perform the firmware update first (to v4.2.1).
-
Then do a factory reset to clear bugs or corrupted settings.
-
Re-update the firmware again after the reset if it rolls back.
Many users do this two-step process to ensure stability after an update. The improved audio you noticed is consistent with v4.2.1, so once you reflash it and reset cleanly, you should be good to go.
