Motorcycle installed "Dash Cam" for loop recording while riding

Many, many riders have wanted for a device like this, but no one has brought a proper unit to market despite their being an overwhelming amount of dash cams for cars. Motorcycles are just as, if not more, likely to need a device like this given how vulnerable they are on the road. Sena has the technological know how to bring a device like this to market, and it's easy to see that it would sell. Of course, I do think it would have a couple of specific requirements (which is why car dash cams are not suitable). Please let Sena know if you are also interested, and add any other requirement or feature in the comments.

1. Designed primarily as a dash cam

Sell it as an action camera too, but it should be primarily a dash cam for recording possible accidents or incidents.

.2 Ideally, sub-200 price point

Maybe multiple models with different resolutions, but as a dash cam most users will probably be put of by a price point above 200$.

3. Useable as action camera

It's obvious that the action camera market is at a peak, and while most users don't have anything particularly interesting to record, we would all like to have the opportunity to do so, or at least know we can. Get the people to buy it because it's a cool action camera, but keep them using it because it's a dashcam. This, along with the phone pairing and App would allow it to be an excellent action camera.

4. Phone pairing and App for viewing footage

Given that it would have to be motorcycle mounted, it is very, very likely to be installed in an awkward position without good access. This is even more true considering that it would have to be waterproof and any port would have to be covered or sealed. A GoPro style app for viewing the saved footage as well as positioning the camera while installing, or even using the camera as an action camera would be priceless.

6. 1080p

Honestly, technology allows for 1080p, or maybe even better, which is necessary for reading license plates after the fact reliably. Plus, we expect no less from Sena.

7. Designed for permanent mounting, multiple bases

I conceive this device as being mounted in two ways, either to flat surfaces or bars. The best candidate is in the fairing over the wheel, under the headlight, mounted upside down. Doublesided tape, properly applied would be sufficient for a vibration resistant, waterproof, installation. Ideally, the device would have itself a flat base, which mounts to a mounting plate. The device would mount to the mounting plate mechanically, but allowing a "tool free quick detach", and the mounting plate would have the adhesive mount to the fairing. That way, with two mounting plates for two bikes, and move the device between bikes. It would also have a mounting plate to attach to tubes in case mounting to the frame is preferred.

8. Pivoting lens

The lens should be able to pivot slightly vertically, and ideally rotate a few degrees side to side.

9. Software mirroring and rotating

The device should allow to be configured in the app to be able to rotate the footage 90º if it is placed vertically or mirror it (when used pointing behind the bike).

10. Waterproof

This goes almost without saying. This device only makes sense if it is mounted directly to the bike, so that means staying there when it rains our while cleaning. So it would need to be waterproof, with the only cable going out to be the power cable.

11. 12v power cable

Only one cable should come out of the body, and that is a detachable, replaceable 12v cable to power the device. Whether a waterproof plug is used, or anything else is fine I guess, but it should allow for moving between bikes. Please stay away from propietary plugs though, Sena won't be making any money on that, and us bikers like to tinker. This is a device which would have to be installed (that can be either extremely basic or properly done depending on the knowledge of the user). While it is tempting, a cigarette type charger or usb cable is of no actual use except for marketing purposes. This is a device that would have to be hardwired to the bike.

12. Power on voltage detection

This device should power up and start recording when 12v is detected at the charging port. It would be a plus if it could also be set to keep recording after the motorcycle is parked and turned off until battery has gone down to a set percentage (configurable in the app) although this would have to be something that can be turned on and off.

13. Decide between either battery or capacitor

A replaceable battery would be nice, and the option to choose between battery for standalone operation or a capacitor for strict hard wired use would be desirable, but each come with serious design constraints which would have to be considered. Being able to choose between either if a replaceable battery is used would be great, and would allow Sena to sell spare batteries.

14. G sensor for impact detection

This is a must. If it is used as intended, as a "dashcam", it's primary purpose is to record accidents. Don't ask the user to press a particular button, or take any action to have to save the footage from having to be overwrited. A simple G sensor would be ideal, as it could simply save the footage when an impact is detected, as many dashcams do. Optimally, the threshold would be configurable since a wheelie could set off that G sensor for some sportbike users, which would be a non issue for a Gold Wing user. Let the user choose the G's in the app,  but also give him an idea in the help menu what G's he should choose.

15. RF remote

Like mentioned, most users will buy it as an action cam, but only use it like a dash cam. Sell an optional RF remote button. It would be nice to start stop recording, but a single one button device which saves the past minute, the current minute and the next minute would be fine for most users. If the user keeps pressing the button, just extend the video file. If the user wants advanced functionality over that, they should simply use the app.
