When this happens, you can double tap the iPhone's Home button and swipe up on the Sena Smartphone App to "kill" and then restart the app so that it will connect to the 20S correctly.

It doesn't connect after killing the app while the headset is properly connected :( It does play music over BT, the app doesn't see the device.

    Any other advices?

@emjacek: Perform a Factory Reset on your headset (refer to the User's Guide) then remove it from the list of devices in the Bluetooth menu on your phone. Power off the phone then power it back on. Pair your headset to your phone again using the Mobile Phone Pairing method. Start the Sena Smartphone App again to see if it will properly connect to your headset.

Same thing happening to me. Did a factory reset and re-pair as specified above. Same problem. Device is paired. All functions work. App says "please pair your iPhone" when I try to access settings. Dead in the water here.

Uninstall the Sena Smartphone App to completely remove it from your phone and re-download it from the Apple App store.

Just bought a SMH10R and looks like i have the same problem. Not connecting to the Iphone mobile app. IT IS CONNECTED via Bluetooth. looks like this problem is coming a long way when reading the notes above and it seems that Sena can not provide the answers to the problem at hand. Will there be a solution soon??

The Sena Smartphone App only works with the Sena 20S, 10S, 10C, 10U, and 10R.

Compatibility: Requires iOS 7.0 or later.

You should try to restart your iPhone. To restart your iPhone hold down the Home button and at the same time hold don the power button until you see the Apple logo appear on the screen. Now you can let go of the buttons and let your device complete its start sequence.

Still no joy. Awaiting further advice from Sena support.

Sena support have given up on me and told me to return the unit. This is sheer frustration. I can't believe that this is a hardware problem, especially when it would seem that many others have experienced the same app connection issue.

Power off the phone then power it back on. try your receiver to your phone once more victimization the movable Pairing methodology. begin the Sena Smartphone App once more to visualize if it'll properly connect with your receiver.

I took my Sena 10C with this problem to the Australian distributor in Perth who was very helpful. She couldn't get the unit to communicate with the Apple app despite multiple manoeuvres and ultimately swapped the unit for a new one that would work.

I have the same issue. The exact message I receive from the APP is Connection Failure. Your app needs to restart.

When will this be fixed Sena???????

I recently purchased a 20. Music works most of the time, navigation from phone works, NO phone (call) stuff works. Speed dial, answering, nothing works. I've factory reset my Sena, uploaded current firmware, current app, etc. it's not working. Sean's response to me was, "You have to save the number first before you can use the speed dial." Yup, did that- the same way my brother with his Sena 20 and his Android did it. His works. He called me today while we were on a bike ride together- I couldn't answer it.

For everyone with an SMH10, SMH5, or SMH10R on here having problems, I'm pretty sure the reason is simply because the app is not compatible with those devices. I believe some of you are confusing the 10R with the SMH10R.

I fixed the problem on my headset.  I initially set up my phone, then downloaded the app.  Would not connect on the app.  So, after many tries, I figured out the issue.  This must be done in order for this to work.

    1.  Headset is not paired, is disconnected from iPhone and MUST "forget this connection"   start clean.

    2.  Register online with user name and password

    3.  Download app (not prism app as that is for the camera I learned)

    4. Turn on app

    5.  Log into App using username created on the SENA website)

    6.  Navigate to bluetooth setting on iPhone

    7.  Turn on headset, press phone button 5 seconds for pairing (20s model)

    8.  Select Sena 20S ver 1.6 (or update headset)

    9.  Navigate back to app and I found the app working and no more crazy message about connecting to the phone on the app !

    Problem solved!
    Go to “settings”
Then scroll down to “Sena Utility”
Select it and make sure “Bluetooth” is enabled.
For some bizarre reason either Sena or Apple decided to deselect Bluetooth…… uggh! Why do they constantly make thing more difficult with each update.

Having the same issue on SMH5-FM., v3 Firmware. All APPS on Iphone 11 seem to not want to connect to the device although I can also play music and make calls as expected. Above "Bluetooth" enabled as Christopher suggested, so that is not my issue.

Bought a Sena outreach R built in Bluetooth. Got it paired with my iPhone 14 max , no radio and the Sena utility app keeps telling me to restart app. Have done many times and even restart to factory reset, turned off phone etc still no bloody good- WHY? 😡
