50S Battery life issues
Anyone else experiencing issues with the 50S not being able to charge to 100%? I plug it in and it instantly thinks it is fully charged when in reality it hardly gets any charge. I turn it on and it says "battery low" within 20 minutes most times.
Friends with the 50R claim they have no problems, and I've been told the 50S issues I'm experiencing are software related, but man this is ridiculous.

Hello
try to reload the software 1.0.3 with the Sena Device Manager, just install it.
Dan who can unload the device completely and then recharge it.

I tried your suggestion, reloaded the software and I still experience the same issue. Unit thinks it is 100% charged when it is not.

It's not a firmware issue, just return the unit and get another one. The unit that you got has a defective battery.

I noticed my new 50S was dead as a doornail yesterday. Charged it to 100% today, and within less than an hour it was dead again. Dropped to 84% after 15 minutes; 42% after 30 minutes; 16% after 50 minutes. Dead at an hour. Support said to do a fault reset and charge for 3 hours. After that do a factory reset. Within seconds of plugging the 50S into a USB charger, it went from red to blue. I'll try their suggestions and see how it works later tonight. BTW firmware was updated the day I got it a few weeks ago.

Larry Barasch yeah I experience the same issue, plug it in and it practically instantly goes from red to blue. I've tried everything. Fault reset, factory reset, software reload, nothing seems to work.

If I run into that I will call Sena tomorrow and request a replacement. I did the 20S to 50S trade-in upgrade a few weeks ago. Hope they can get it here quickly as I have a week long trip to Vermont I'm leaving for on 8/13.

Hello
I had the same problem.
What did I do.
The software reloaded it the same version as it was on it with the same overwrite.
Important then discharge the battery Run in FM mode until it has turned off.
Reload now about 1.5 hrs until it turns blue.
Now it's ok and it's displayed again 100%
This happened to me already with 2 devices and could be saved
Apparently, the software comes up with problems that are responsible for the load.
This procedure re-steals them.

Hi, I tried your recommendation and unfortunately it did not work.0 -
Yeah, I tried too and nothing worked. Last night I did the fault reset, charged for 3 hours (even though red light turned blue within seconds) and Sena App said 100% charged, but Sena voice said "low battery", and did factory reset. Went from 100% charged to 82% charged in about 30 seconds. Dead shortly thereafter. Spoke to Tech Support and they authorized a replacement. Waiting to receive RMA return label and instructions.

I tried following the instructions given through a support ticket where they insisted I re-update the unit again, and go through a factory and fault reset. Did absolutely nothing for me, also going to be going for a replacement. I want them to physically test the unit before sending it out, and you should ask for the same so we both don't get stuck with lemon units again. My friends with the 50R do not have this issue so I don't understand the reasoning for this.0 -
Received RMA return instructions and sent my unit back with tracking number yesterday morning. Now awaiting confirmation that they will cross ship me a replacement unit which hopefully will arrive before I leave for my trip. Can only live chat with Tech Support department who relays messages to RMA department via e-mail. Tech Support says neither they nor I can call the RMA department directly. I remember when Sena customer support was much more warm and fuzzy. I'm kind of wondering if I did the right thing trading in my 20S for the 50S, since all the 20S needed was a new battery. Never considered Cardo, but we'll see how this all plays out.

Sorry for your issues. 50R battery life is great.

I have absolutely the same issue and none of the suggested fixes helped. Looks like it is not a problem of one particular unit but there are more of these. I can't believe Sena produced such a poor quality product and does not even admit it.

The product works great after I replaced the units with the defective batteries. I have been using the replaced units on multiple trips now and no complaints. Just get them replaced! It’s not the firmware/software, it’s just a defective battery.

I sent my dead 50S back to Sena last week and they cross-shipped me a new replacement. The tech department tested the new unit before shipping it to me. I will have a chance to test it in a couple of days as I leave for a week long trip to Vermont on Wednesday. So far, the new unit has maintained 100% charge since I took it out of the box a few days ago. Fingers crossed the new one will hold up to actual use next week.

In general, my situation is as follows: I live in Belarus and it is not profitable to send a headset to the USA with shipping and taxes paid. So I decided to try to solve the problem with my own hands. After analyzing the situation, I decided that the problem was either the battery or the power controller. I opened the device and checked the battery; out of the declared capacity of 1000 mAh, its capacity was 5 mAh. Now you need to either get a new battery from Sena or find an analogue in China

Виталий привет
я тоже из Минска, а можешь скинуть модель батареи ?
мне тоже надо поменять, я коробку выкинул и поляки не хотят без коробки менять по гарантии0 -
After receiving a replacement unit it seems that I no longer have an issue. I have yet to take it on a ride and will soon update, but for now the unit properly charges and displays a proper battery level, without immediately jumping to "100%." Sena should recognize that many of the earlier units clearly have a defective battery and resolve this for others.

I am having the same battery issue. I plug it in and it goes blue very fast. I am now getting an hour out of it... I have also upgraded to the newest firmware. Still same problem. How to i request an RMA?

50s battery is junk, I'm working with Sena trying to get a RMA. With so many people reports the same problem. I should have to pay to ship the product to Sena. The 50s should just be recalled for the battery problems. Sena should be shipping replacement units and send us a return label, instead of us paying for the shipping. The agent #5 told me the its on the website. I'm freaking sorry, I didn't go to website to read the warranty info. I went to Cycle gear and order the product.

Here we are in 2021 ans I’m having this issue. I may never buy another Sena device. I returned 20 EVO’s I think three times. I had two sets. So frustrated I decided to take the upgrade offer on both sets and got the 50Rs. They are great but now the battery issue. My app says they are 38% charged but the blue light comes on immediately upon plugging them in to charger. Prob with exchanging is I have to go without my set for a week or two. I ride daily for work and leisure. This becomes a pain and what will I get—refurbished. I bought new ones. I don’t want refurbs in exchange for one’s I bought new but do not work. I Agree with the person above who said they should ship me new ones and a return label for me to return the old ones once I get the new ones. Lots of dealers dealing with far less expensive items do so. I’ve been a customer for 8 years or so. Even the newest customer deserves better consideration.

I gotta agree with you, Parrish. The only good thing is that they are so new, the refirb is probably as new as yours. Most of the complaints have been on the 50S, not the R. My two Rs have been very good, but not as good as Sena advertises. It is just too bad as the company could be much better.

Are you using a powerful enough wall wart. The ones for many cell phones are not powerful enough.

OK I have a higher powered charger for my iPad but it is too strong for my iPhone. Is it too strong for the sena device. If not why does Sena not tell me so?

My unit won't charge above 81% after sitting on a charger all night, and I have the blue light on the 50s that comes on after about 3 minutes after it's charged. Working with tech support through email now.

My 50R was doign the same if it ever got that high. Chapin above suggested a fix. I purchased a charging block that is 30W with two cable on Amazon. Go them and my unit charged to 100%. The blue light didn’t come on until it was nearly there. I think the cables Amazon sends must give a false signal or something. The cables I got connect more securely to the units that theirs. Prob I do not have a charging block that is USB C except for this unit I bought. I had the same experience with my iPad. It seemed to stop charging at 35% with standard fair block from APple. Got a higher wattage block and it charges fine now. Have no idea what that is about.

Same issues I have been having with my Sena 50R. Charged for 4 hours on a USB-C charger that came with my Pixel 4, moment I powered it on to go for a ride, it said low battery. I then rode with it connected via USB to a standard USB-A charge port for the entire night, and it continually would say "low battery" even when connected and charging. There definitely seems to be something not right with the batteries in these units.
