SRL3 Intercom for Shoei GT-Air 3 Helmet - Mono FM & No Treble at lower volumes
For an intercom that comes with Harmon-Kardon speakers, I cannot believe the FM radio built in can only receive FM Mono audio.
Stereo radio stations just have mono audio in the SRL3.
I live in a large city. I work at the local commercial FM radio station - the signal is excellent all over my city - we broadcast in stereo, but I only get mono sound in my SRL3. I change stations and it doesn't matter what station I tune to (they are all transmitting in Stereo sound) I get mono audio from the FM radio.
I contacted Sena Support here in Australia who assumed the radio received Stereo FM as it came out both speakers - which it does, but it's not stereo FM. The same audio comes out both L & R speakers. There are no separate stereo channels on FM radio.
They sent me a new SRL3 saying it's got stereo FM but alas, it does not. Sound out of 2 speakers does not make it stereo. It has zero stereo separation and only receives mono FM sound.
An extraordinary oversight considering the big deal made out of the Harman-Kardon speakers.
You do get stereo sound when playing music off your phone (from Apple Music etc) - so there is a stereo amplifier built into the unit, but not a stereo FM receiver built in.
I also have an issue streaming music via Bluetooth from my iPhone 16, the audio is flat and muffled sounding on anything except full volume, where the audio suddenly becomes a lot more treble and crisp. I've fiddled with all the settings in the Sena App and it made no difference. I see I'm not the only person who has noticed this issue as there are others complaining about this issue.
For an intercom unit costing well over A$600 these two issues are nothing short of appalling.
But then to add to the issues, the voice command system is a joke. It's basically accepted by all users that it just does not work. I don't even bother trying to use it anymore. I just use Siri for the things I can control with the phone.
Sena know the voice command system doesn't work and they appear to have nothing to say about it.
It's just not good enough. How did this product make it to the market when it's so badly implemented?
It's 2025, we have a unit costing over A$600.
We have Harmon-Kardon speakers but only mono FM radio.
We have audio that changes EQ depending on the volume level set and only sounds crisp and clear at the loudest volume...
And we have a voice control system that just does not work, no one can get it working no matter their accent.
It's just not good enough.
The SRL3 is my first ever Sena product and at this rate, it's my last. The quality is just not there to justify the asking price.
