Mono FM only on SRL3? Surely that's not right?
For an intercom that comes with Harmon-Kardon speakers, is there a reason I cannot receive FM stereo on my SRL3?
I hope it's some sort of firmware oversight.
I live in a large city. I work at the local commercial FM radio station - the signal is excellent all over my city and beyond - we broadcast in stereo, but I only get mono sound in my SRL3. I change stations and it doesn't matter what station I tune to (they are all transmitting in Stereo sound) I get mono audio from the FM radio.
I contacted Sena Australia and they blamed the radio station. As I work at the local radio station this was quickly shut down.
Sena Support here in Australia (who were very helpful, albeit a bit confused as to the definition of "Stereo") assumed the radio received Stereo FM as the "come out both speakers" - which it does, but it's not stereo FM. The same audio comes out both L & R speakers. There are no separate stereo channels on FM radio.
They sent me a new SRL3 saying it's got stereo FM at their end but alas, it does not. Sound out of 2 speakers does not make it stereo. It has zero stereo separation and only receives mono FM sound and sounds very flat.
Surely this is a firmware or software issue? I cannot believe a unit with Harmon Kardon speakers, a stereo amplifier etc only receives mono FM radio?
You do get stereo sound when playing music off your phone (from Apple Music etc) - is there some sort of firmware oversight?
For an intercom unit costing well over A$600 to not have Stereo FM radio in a unit bragging about the quality of it's "Harmon Kardon" speakers seems a tad ridiculous.
Anyone from Sena got any comment or can investigate? Surely a unit costing over A$600 with flashy speakers doesn't deliberately have a mono FM radio?
